Discovering Erotic Art

Hey 1S1S,

I have been checking out some erotic art lately after I found a book by Luis Royo. I picked up a copy of Heavy Metal magazine and found the names of some other artists who delve into erotica. Most of it is "fantasy" erotica, although I have found some straight forward erotica art online.

What are you most interested in? Do you have any favorite artists?

Thank you for answering

Hi Lucifer’s Tongue

And thank you for answering my thread…

I have seen a lot of Luis Royo work, his art was one of the first that got me into erotic fantasy art as well as the art work in adult comics. The other artist that I like (God! There really too many to say and I should write book on it LOL)

Two of my favourites are Chris Achilleos and Olivia de Berardinis.

But I have to say that the one at the top of my list is Dorian Cleavenger looking at his art just gives my mind the most wonderful fantasy to dream.

Have a look and please let me know what you think.

“She visits you when you are sleeping and steals your dreams. She thinks these dreams are hers and they have become her memories for she has been cursed to never sleep for an eternity. So if you should ever wake up and can’t remember your dreams… it’s because it doesn’t belong to you anymore.”

Okay, I checked out the three that you mentioned. I had seen some of the pieces before but I was really impressed with Cleavenger's work. I had heard of him before, although I actually thought Dorian was a woman, but the two pieces I had seen attributed to him were not at all representative of the majority of his work.

His art has a much darker, more gothic feel than I had expected. I looked thru about eight galleries of his art on his website and would have been happy to look thru another eight galleries. Really great stuff.

I had actually been considering posting some stories inspired by some of Royo's work, and now I think I can easily find some inspiration in Cleavenger's work as well.

Have you ever considered writing anything along these lines?

Yes! I have thought about writing stories about his work… and I agree that he is very Gothic in his art work; I think that’s why I like it so much.

Let’s write a story each on one of his pictures and then send it to each other.

Would you like to do that?

"Although we think we are in control, it is merely an illusion. It is our desires that control us, that feed us and sustain our existence, for we are the servants of which we have no control over."

That sounds like fun to me. As soon as I decide on a picture I'll get started on the story.

I look forward to reading your story.

Artist of erotica ...

I've been an artist since I was about 4 and have been an artist of erotica since I was about 23. I'm very familiar with the artists you mentioned in this thread and have enjoyed erotic art from all over the world since I was in my early teens.

I've never really come across anyone who likes discussing erotic artworks. I'd be happy to chat with you further on the subject...

So please tell me what other artist do you like... and do you have a web site so I can view your work.

artists of eros ...

I do have a website, but its for my commercial art business and contains only one pic that can be considered "erotic" if you look hard:

www.aragonartworks.com

Otherwise the pics I have of some of my own erotic works can be e-mailed privately. You can e-mail me through my biz website if you'd like.

The other artists of eros that I enjoy, some are obvious like: Frazetta, Giger, Vallejo, Olivia, Sorayama, Nagle, etc., as well as many of the classical nudes and depictions done by many of the renaissance artists and the "unknown" artists who have contributed over the centuries to this subject matter.

I also enjoy Milo Manara, Armondo Huerta, John Hul, Drew Posada, Mobius, Brian Rood, Alazar, Jennifer Janesco, Carlos Cartagena, John Bolton, Monty Moore, Leone Frollo, Dave Stevens, Boris Lopez ... can you tell I'm just reading the names from my personal collection?

Anyway, there's a lot of them out there in a lot of different mediums. I'm also partial to a few sculpters and a couple of the film makers in the adult film industry that have managed to make art out of sex.

There's definitely no shortage of inspirations out there from other artists as well as our own imaginations.

I look forward to hearing from you.

my partner is into erotic art. He gave me a book for my birthday this past year its full of twenthy century erotic art and i really like most of the stuff i see in there.

he also paints some erotic stuff, and i'm is modle for most of it. he does a lot of what the book descirbes as 5 senses erotic art. He also likes to paint fantasy stuff as well.

Eros Artist ...

Its a kick being the one of the few that gets on both sides of the artist's eyes.

That book sounds familiar. What's the title?

Imagenetion

Have been using this site for a couple of years, features all the artists you mentioned plus so many more:) :)

That's a good site. I've ran across a few of those and though they cover so many artists it would be nice to see a site that's devoted to complete unknowns. Someplace where artists could get their works shown and possibly get "discovered".

Though I enjoy the hell out of these well established artists, it would be interesting to put together a site filled to the teeth with men and women who haven't gotten their break for whatever reason.

That would be an original piece of work.

Thus far, all the "art society" individuals that have had the opportunity to associate with (with the exceptions of only two ...) have been art-over-educated-hoity-toity snobs. They don't care about people who aren't "established" and they don't give opportunities for newbees to get established.

... but, I'm getting on a rant here that's probably not appropriate for this forum. My bad. I just don't seeing the "little guys" get kept down. Maybe I'll create something on my commercial site for them ...

I know what you mean.
We tried to get some well known local artists to paint a mural on the wall of the local information centre.
Apparently it was beneath them to do this sort of work.
One said he usually got schoolkids to do the fill in work, if the kids are doing the fill in work what does he do.
Eventually we got a young unknown guy to do it.
He did a fantastic job and stuck it right the black shirt brigade.

Nice job. Murals and wall accents are primarily what my biz is and I don't see why some artists consider it below themselves to do.

It was good enough for the ancient Egyptians and the Sistine Chapel, and that's just mentioning two of the hundreds, if not thousands of examples that are around the world.

Thanks for hiring the "unkown guy". That was a good thing to do for an artist. :)
