Epilogue/Postscript etc

I'm finally getting what you're talking about, I think. One thing that makes a story erotic is that the protagonists (probably a couple, but not necessarily so) relate to each other in some way - which could vary a lot in the details. I have one story in which the two people don't get along, but I can't say if it's truly erotic or not.

Since I mentioned Norman Mailer, I would say his story is not erotic (although explicit) and he seemed to intend it to be that way. Basically, his two characters can't stand each other, plus it's a rather implausible plot too. It's short and it's online if you wish to read it.

The Time of Her Time
What makes a story erotic is sexually arousing the reader. It's not really more complex than that. The eroticism effect is on the reader. And one doesn't have to engage in a sexual act with anyone else to either become sexually aroused or have an orgasm in reaction to a story.

Yeah.

I've had people write me telling me they were getting off on my descriptions of the socio-political impact of a setting that allowed public nudity. Not the sex and nudity itself, but the characters talking about how it impacts things like work responsibilities, Human Resources, work/life balance, etc.

In the right context the most unusual things can become erotic.

Public nudity settings seem quite popular around here. That's fine as one as long as one keeps in mind that they are complete fantasies, and we all have fantasies. Just my two cents (with inflation it should be more like a dollar) but, not so much much with the writers but with the people who propose these things (usually on Stories Ideas) is that they have a no-so-secret hankering for it to really happen. Okay, but I wonder if underneath they are disappointed that it will never happen?

Would you take a crack at that Norman Mailer story I linked to above? It's short, but the critics mostly raved about and Mailer himself seemed pleased with it. My opinion is that he missed by a long way at either being erotic or even just writing a story, but maybe that's just me.
