So this morning I started on the front steps for the place. I got everything set up, the saw horses were placed just so. The power tools, hand saw and screws were et off to the side. The wood was stacked in the order I would need it.
Now remember I believe in German Engineering here.
I start with the 4x4's. Six cuts later with the hand saw and I have six 24 inch long sections, all fully squared.
Then comes the 2x4's. For these I can use the power saw and I do with great gusto and glee. There's nothing quite like annoying the crap out of ones neighbors with the screaming of a power saw, especially when you know said neighbors have got to have hang overs from their party the night before.
A couple of cuts with the Jig Saw and I have the lengths of 1x4 I need for the cross bracing.
Now it gets quieter for a bit. I start putting things together. The drill and Cordless driver are almost silent as I work. The framework for the platform is done and the stringers are in place. Tomorrow I start on the Plywood and the steps themselves. I'll also go down and pick up the latticework for the frame as well as the rest of the wood I need and the paint.
I start putting things away and my wife reminds me there is more work I need to do. There are a number of steel truss beams that a friend of mine needs cut. Nothing major, just some 1x1 box beams that need to be cut to length for her patio. I grab the Power Mitre Saw, set it up and get ready to do the work. (I have to change the blade on the saw for this. A very fine toothed blade of course.)
I look over at the neighbors place and am happy to see the blinds are still drawn. Not a big surprise considering their party kept me up until 0300 this morning. (Hey it's only 1030.)
I get everything set up and start cutting. Talk about a scream when the saw blade hits the metal. It hurt my ears and I was wearing ear plugs.
Six l-o-n-g s-l-o-w cuts later I shut down the saw and put it away as I saw my neighbor staggering down the road towards the front office holding his head. I can only imagine the reception he received there. (The property manager had been by earlier on his morning drive around and commented to me about the beer cans and bottles in the guys yard.)
That was this morning. Already this evening my neighbors friends have shown up again. Their grill is going as is their radio. The beer cans are starting to pile up in their front yard and I'm thinking about the work I need to do tomorrow morning.
