"This is all your fault," Katherine snarled at her partner, her voice a strange but pleasant mix of western drawl and a whisper of Irish, he just grinned at her, "Oh Katie, it won't be that bad. Besides, I missed the birth of my son because you and I were working that case in Mexico. I promised Abby I wouldn't miss our daughter's birth." Katherine just glowered at him, "I got partnered with Karl Henderson." Hunter winces, "Yeah, I heard, but still it'll be okay. You know the boss wouldn't have paired him with you, if he didn't think Karl could keep up." Kat sat back in her chair, tossing her combat boot clad feet up on her desk, her pale grey eyes watching her blonde partner, "I set this cover up when I still thought you'd be going with me. The cover story is a couple. I have to pretend to be a couple with him." Now Kat understood Hunter wanting to stay behind, after Abby's pregnancy became high risk, she knew Hunter would stay with his wife, and she didn't blame him a bit, she was frustrated that of all the other agents she offered, the boss chose the only one she couldn't have wanted less.

And with the assignment starting so soon, they had to keep the same cover story, Kat had memorized everything already. She flicked a strand of her mahogany hair out of her face. She was 5'6" an athletic 120 pounds, her skin was a naturally gold dusted color. Dressed in a pair of dark jeans, a snug royal blue shirt and a leather jacket, her gold badge hanging around her neck. "I'm going to die on this assignment. There is no way in hell he'll be able to keep up, and maintain a cover for such an extended period of time." It was estimated that they'd be under cover for six months at least. She wasn't looking forward to doing such deep cover with someone she didn't trust.

"I have to go home and pack, we leave tomorrow night. I also have to go find the jerk and need to make sure that he actually can memorize his new life story and play it convincingly." She sighed, praying that this wouldn't end up with her dead. "I'll drop the dogs off tomorrow morning." She owned two German shepherds that would be staying with Hunter while she was gone. Hunter nods, "Sounds good, I'll check on your place and your mail, try and keep those whimpy things you call plants alive." Katherine just made a face as she stood up, and left the little corner that her and Hunter had their desks situated. Walking through the bullpen, she looked for Karl, knowing that they would have a very difficult time working together.

Karl Henderson looked up to see the one reason he didn't like his job. "No, I don't like your sorry cover story!" He snapped to Katherine Doyle. She looked sharp, fit, and angry. "Look" He said. "I've wanted an undercover assignment since the academy and I won't let you ruin this for me!" He glared at Katherine and stood up.
The concealed 9mm pistol and spare magazines were well hidden behind his expensive suit jacket. He only knew they had to infiltrate a dangerous group of big city gun runners and get information that led to indictments. His time in the gym and his rough demeanor would help him fit in on the streets. Could this petite, thin, though admittedly sparky woman even make an attempt to not get their cover blown?
"You know I am expert marksman qualified, maybe if we need to, I can shoot our way out of the mess you get us into." He snapped. His belt badge was above his waist and he couldn't help but wonder if her plan was to get him off the case immediately. In addition to a few buddies and a date or too, he had nothing holding him to his civilian life and would go deep cover completely for the ATF.
"So we're a couple, huh? Who's idea was that?"

Katherine snarled, "You'll be lucky if I don't strangle you before this is over." Her already nearly colorless eyes seeming to get even colder. "And I don't particularly care what you do or do not like. You were my absolute last choice for this assignment." She crossed her arms, meeting his gaze confidently, "I set up this cover story, for myself and my partner. Now he can't go, so you get to fill the stop. Which means, you get no say in the story, nothing gets changed, you will memorize everything, I will not get killed because you could not remember a simple detail." She snapped. "We fly out tomorrow to Chicago. and will have a few hours to get settled into the hotel, before a couple of the Coyotes will be coming to pick us up." She said, simply assuming that she would take the lead on this assignment, and acting accordingly.

Karl looked at her with perturbed amusement. "Oh, I will?" He smiled. "Maybe you didn't get the memo from the section chief?" He grinned and handed Katherine a piece of copy paper. He then explained:"You see, because of my tactical background both in the Swat unit of Houston and in the last two cases, I get final say on all possible use of force decisions. Oh, you run the show, Katie, but I make the life and death decisions." He enjoyed calling her a pet name and wanted to add "Sweetie" or "Miss Thing" but didn't want to inject any more sexual tension right now. Her petite figure and tight clothing were making him wonder if he was going to have to "prove" his cover.

"You know, I could follow your lead if you weren't so hot headed, tangential, and didn't jump to dangerous conclusions. Do you mind actually trying to be an undercover investigator this time?" Karl sat down to conceal his slight interest and realized his face was waist high to his new semi supervisor.
"So I'm familiar with the suspects, what's our cover anyway? How do we fit in? Don't tell me we're going to be a happily married pair of newlywed gun brokers. Who would believe that? And also I'll get a tattoo if I have to prove myself in this role, but I'm not putting your name in a heart anywhere on my body!"

Karl sat back and took in his partner. She was cute, angry and even sexy in the capable sort of way that all female agents had, regardless of build. If he could stay out of the cartels' clutches, he might live through the next six months.

She took the paper barely reading it before ripping it in half. "I don't care who said what. If it comes down to it, I'm not waiting for anyone's permission." She said. then just smirked, "I've done more long term undercover ops than you have, so you can't lecture me on acting like an undercover agent." She snapped. "And no, we are not a newly weds. In fact, we both are very much against marriage. We've been together close to a decade, sold guns to almost every major player there is. We are the middle man for the Coyotes in Chicago. We're flying in, to assure our boss that the Coyotes are the real deal, that they aren't going to rat out our boss, who are the Russians." She explained.

Kat may be hot headed and a rather cold person, but she was an excellent undercover agent, she was nearly impossible to break, she never faltered in her cover story, never had she had her cover broken. "We don't have much time, we need to get to know each other," She looked disgusted by the idea, "We've been a couple for a decade, we should know each other completely, every little quirk, every change in body language. We should be able to communicate virtually silently." She said finally. silently she thought that they should be able to act how her and Hunter acted. "Hell, it's too late to change our covers," Or she would, to siblings or even just co-workers, but everything was set in stone, they had to learn to live with it. And Katherine would, her life would literally depend on her ability to act like they were a couple. Now granted, it wasn't expected that they be all lovely dovey, in fact it would be strange to do so, but they would be living at the Coyote's main compound for a while, it would be inevitable, they would have to show affection to each other at some point, and it had to be natural.
