I've only had them when I've been in labor, so not sure if it would be the same otherwise, but then? Pretty quickly.

Thanks, that's what I thought I remembered but it's been fifteen years and I wasn't sure if I was just being impatient at the time.

If the recipient is laying on their side, they can probably hold it as long as they want- especially if the pressure feels sexy to them. Seated, maybe a minute...

If this preparation for anal sex, don't give them a deep colonic- just the regular Fleet size- a pint and a half, maybe? Otherwise, you'll be bringing fecal matter down from the intestines and the cleaning process will go on for an awfully long time... You only want to clean out the rectum to the first bend, so to speak

i agree with stella. one *might* hold an enema indefinitely, after all the water would be absorbed.

the time depends a) on the substance, b) the temperature of the water, c) the amount of water injected.

suffice it to say that IF the giver want faily instant results, s/he could get them. but maybe the giver wants the person to be extremely uncomfortable for a half hour; or plugs their butt.

so the answer is, 10 seconds, to 10 hours (=no reaction).

It really does depend on the volume of liquid involved. I have had to hold a small volume for up to 8 hours, and if I didn't have to go anyway, I wouldn't. I see no reason why a healthy person wouldn't be able to hold it several hours more.
