Hey guys,
I just wanted to hear from other writers what they think about the topic. I am currently working on a storyline in my story Secret Agent, Sarah Banks, in which I plan to end it. I am also considering killing off Sarah, the heroine of the story. Now her character would be much alive in other stories and even in other story lines with in Secret Agent. But, she'd die at the end of mine.

If you've ended a storyline or killed off a prominate character let me know. Maybe some tips or something would be great.

Thanks,
Tim (niceguy2002tim)

Hmmm

An interesting idea...Kill Sarah. I think it would be fine as that is just one story line in a story that has a myriad. With what she is doing I think it would be interesting to explore that possible outcome. Maybe there could be a way for her to slip away and arise anew. Maybe she only appeared to die. The possibilities are endless.

Can't say I have ever thought about killing a character in any of my stories, but none of them really have that dark of a theme to begin with.

:D

Certainly the theme of characters dying happens in the kind of stories Sarah is in, but not the main character. On the other hand, many threads of traditional Choose Your Own Adventures end with the character dying.

Jakelyon's suggestion of her coming back from the supposed dead is also common in spy fiction.

Do what you want with your story. It'll be fine.

personally, it would be nice to have a story where the bad guy wins. so please go ahead and kill of sarah if the idea intrigues you.

as for ideas.... falling into a trap? getting ambushed? sacrificing herslef to save the world? being betrayed by a fellow agent? or agreeing to a one-on-one duel and actually losing?

I'm a huge fan of Hong Kong style cinema where the bad guys quite often win so I'm all for it. One guy cant always beat the evil guys army after all, although Hollywood sure things they can.

I've only had the one story line finish in The Choices We Make and that was done by brevdravis. It made sense to end things where it was and it was a fitting conclusion. Besides if the reader was desperate for more they could juts click back a couple and they would have nunerous ways to continue.

I've had a 'bad ending' for my story Johnny's Conscience. I have to get back to writing for that story.

For Population Crisis, I did a thread where the main character ticks off a teacher, so she kicks him in the crotch. He is thus unable to continue in the human breading experiment, and is bound for prison, ending the story.

As far as killing a character, I have done it, but not on CHYOO. I was part of a story game, where I and sever others all wrote an ongoing story, each of use focusing on our own character. I got into some heated arguments with command crew, and so I finally decided to leave the game. In my fairwell post, I killed off my character, a lovable pink dragon with the heart of a child. This caused a minor revolt, and a few other writers left with me. After that, I don't know what happened.

In the end, it comes down to if you think it is artisticaly warranted. I did just post a kinda dark thread to my story. Let me know what you think.

My story, "Meeting Your Girlfriend's Mom"

Thanks!

Hey,
I just wanted to say thanks for all the great feedback on this topic. I am not sure exactly what the future storylines will bring for young Sarah Banks, but when we get there, we will see. lol. It's been hard to find time to write for my stories or anybody elses lately. I had a good couple weeks where I wrote about 10 threads. Then back to nothing again.

Once again, thanks for all the feedback, I'll keep everybody updated here at a later time.

Thanks, Tim. (niceguy2002tim)

Do it!

Even though I haven't done it, it has always been my intention to have multiple threads in my Lara Croft story, where if the right path was not chosen, she would ultimately end up dying.

It's a little different scenario, but has a lot of the same ultimate results. My intention was to mimic the game play. Only one possible outcome ... all others end in death (eventually)!

I like this idea. First the path of the story could be done that leads to her sucessful completion of the quest, then I could go back and add in all the ones that did not work out... It could take a lifetime, but still a cool idea.

:D

My storyline end

I haven't killed anyone off, but I did end one of the many storylines at "The Stone Wall Mall" last Christmastime with a holiday wish from Santa and his helpers at the mall. It seemed appropriate, and think it is the only end thread there.

And, though it is early, may I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season this year as well.
