I now have the results from the 3 judges. There are some ties. I thought of finding another judge for a tie breaker but then decided not to.

The winner is Senna Jawa! Congratulations!

This link http://www.sexlacious.com/summerentries.html will take you to the page where can see how all the poems placed.

Thanks so much to those who participated!

Absolutely. Eve, you should have one of these every month!

edited to correct: We should have one of these every month, here! If Eve hosts all of them she never gets to enter the competitions and we don't get to see her poetry!

Who would have guessed it?

Unless he told you so! :)

Well done S.J.

W.E. Are there judges' comments for the poems besides the runners up? What did they use to differentiate between the other submissions.

Regards, Rybka

You're welcome. I have another contest coming up! :D But not until the end of Sept. or 1st of Oct. It's a Halloween contest - with a prize. I'll post all the details in a few weeks.

Rybka, only one judge gave me comments for the poems. I posted the comments for the poems that didn't get the gold, silver, or bronze to let them know that their poetry was truly appreciated. I guess I should put the rest of the comments up.

Rybka check the link again. There are comments with all the poems. :)

Hey, is that the bat signal in the sky! No, no, wait... it's just _land's dick. I've never seen a condom with bat ears and cape before.

what can i say but wow....

so, spur of the moment poetry, inspired by a joke from a friend can win honorable mention, thanks , i truly appreciate it.. its as valuable to me as first place, perhaps even more so .

and a samhain poem ... no problem ....

Well if it gets Your attention I should package them and go to market :p

Congrats Senna Jawa

Your poem is very good--it has images with texture that appeal to the senses (the sound of the mower, the smell of grass, the whine of the plane). So evocative and then that last line adds a layer of meaning!

In my part of the world, going "down the shore," as they call it, is an integral part of summer. Everybody goes. You lay on the beach all day and at night you hit the honky-tonk boardwalk. It's lively, tacky, and great! Then right after Labor Day, it's a ghost town. It was nice to remember.

Actually, lots of good stuff was submitted for this one, and it was all a pleasure to read! I want one of those silly t-shirts Beth wrote about, then I'm going to Rybka's for salad and fresh fruit! And so on....

And Eve, thanks once again for giving us another reason to keep writing!

I was half a day away from my PC, I come back somewhat tired, turn my PC on anyway, and I see this:

Thank you Eve for entering me into contest, and for your involvement. Also, I'd like to thank judges for their selfless effort.

There were 10 poems, so I thought that my unique chance to hear a few positive words here is about one in a hundred. It feels good to win such a lottery against the odds.

All ten poems had their strong and interesting points but Angeline's poem was flawless and very beautiful. I would choose her 'Seaside at Summer's End" for the winner without any hesitation. It has obvious advantages over my poem, and vice versa too, but I will never be able to write such a superb poem as hers (while I might manage to write another one in the "summer end" style).

Best regards,

Thank you Senna

for the lovely compliment to my poem. I think to convey what is imagined with all one's senses is at the heart of a good poem, but when all you need to do is remember it is so much easier, isn't it? Take a look at the picture and you'll see what I mean!

:)

Each of the 3 judges chose a different poem as their #1. Senna, Angeline, stargirl where the #1 choices. Senna was also chosen as #2 by one of the judges, putting him slightly in the lead. It was very close.

Congrats

Great job everyone, this was a really good contest. It's cool watching the different ideas and how they reflect on each other.

Congrats to all!!!

I'm glad I wasn't a judge!

It would have been very hard to choose whose work impressed my the most. :)

You are welcome for dinner, my garden is still producing everything. :)
Of course in the poem it was a metaphor for a man's life.

I was very surprised myself.

Your poem was strong.

Regards,

I loved your poem Rybka

Like Senna's poem it was filled with images that one can experience with the senses--the colors of the fruit, the smell of soil. Just wonderful imagery, I thought. When I read it, the word thar came to mind was vibrant. A vibrant poem!

Congrats Senna!

Great Poem. Congrats to Angeline too. I really liked what you wrote.

Good writing everyone.

I guess i have to try again.............:)
