They only ever go down because the USG conveniently decides that you've "left the labor force" if you've been out of work longer than six months and are no longer hitting the pavement every day. On top of that, we're not even adding enough jobs to keep up with population growth--let alone recover the jobs lost--AND most of the jobs being added to the economy are part-time service jobs, which are sometimes exempt from paying state or federal minimum wage.

If you corrected for all that, we'd have an official unemployment rate in the double digits and an underemployment rate in the high double digits.

This is, of course, by design. A large number of unemployed people--say, large enough for there to be 3-5 people in line for any given job vacancy--means that employers can keep wages low and treat employees like shit, which means they can further divorce productivity from wages and increase their profits.

Unlike you, I actually get paid for political work, so I think my time is infinitely more valuable than yours, but allow me to try to educate you. I believe in public service.

1) If you think that the Republican governors are the only people who are actively anti-union, you're wildly mistaken. See: Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago teacher's strike, Jerry Brown and the United Farm Workers, the current administration's record on things like EFCA, minimum wage, etc during the two years they had supermajorities in both houses of Congress.

2) The Democratic AGs--I didn't say every AG in the country, that a strawman, but it's to be expected from "special" people like you--were strong-armed into signing off on the shitty foreclosure deal, which rushed into making a settlement with actors who have violated the terms of every single other settlement they've ever engaged in without having all the facts. The terms of the settlement--provided the banks actually honor it, which they have a record of not doing--basically amounts to counting things they were doing anyway as "penalties" and fining them the equivalent of a rounding error on the profits they made off the crimes. The settlement, in other words, was yet another backdoor bailout for the banks. If you read direct sources on the deal rather than skimming HuffPo articles, you might know this.

3) Believe it or not, the fact that one side of a two party system is transparently on the wrong side of an issue does not mean the other side is on the right side of the issue. Both sides in a debate can actually be arguing in bad faith.

4) Mitt Romney being an asshole is in no way germane to the argument you are trying to put forward, unless your argument is basically "the other side is way worse," which isn't even true on most issues. (If you recall, Obama explicitly said that he and Romney had the exact same position on "entitlements" during the debates.)

5) My mom is a college graduate and professional. She wouldn't sleep with you, no woman with options would, given the way you handle argument.
