Spiffy side notes:

Hey guys! I'm back! I couldn't stand to be without internet so I signed up for AOL. I don't like it very well, though. I need to find something else. What do you guys use?

Anyways, I love how the Tarzan thread is going, and I think that mya is doing just a marvelous job with my former character, Claire, so I would like for her to keep her role there and I'll just enjoy watching... at least for now. I may just have to jump in later, maybe as a Khwazi female tamed by Bruce's business partner... just an idea :)

OOC for this new and exciting thread:

I was reading the Scooby Doo thread and thinking of joining as Daphnee, but it seemed to be falling apart and I was quite confused... I did, however, really like the idea of using movie or TV characters, so I decided to make a new thread based on the movie Empire Records. I figured that that was one that many people had seen (if you haven't, you should!). I know that I for one love it, and as far as I know most people at least like it to some degree. Plus, it is absolutely filled with unique, three-dimensional characters who interact very well. I think that it could make for some very interesting scenes. For a refresher course on the movie's plot, here's a summary (kinda'):

~~Empire Records is an independent music store in dire trouble of being sold out to a large chain. After a failed attempt by Lucas, one of it's employee's, to raise money to buy the store--using revenues from a day of business, they all have to band together to stage a wild party and raise the cash. However, throughout this seemingly normal day they also must come to terms with who they are and who they want to be. It's a tale of love, personal tragedy, and finding ones true self-- with the added splash of a little rock and roll.~~

I'll be taking the role of Corey (Liv Tyler), and the rest of the cast of characters will be...

Empire Records employees:

Lucas (Rory Cochrane)... almost caused Empire Records to be turned into a chain store... occasional outbursts of wise sayings ("What's with today today?").

A.J. (Johnny Whitworth)... kinda shy... just confessed to Corey that he's in love with her.

Debra (Robin Tunney)... depressed and somewhat suicidal... just shaved her head.

Gina (Renée Zellweger)... resident slut.

Mark (Ethan Randall/Embry)... ummm, goofy.

Warren (Brendan Sexton III)... newest store employee... ex-convict (attempted to steal cd's)

Other Characters:

Joe (Anthony LaPaglia)... store manager.

Rex Manning (Maxwell Caulfield)... washed-up rock star... not that it's very likely that he would come back after that embarassing "Why don't you all just... fade away" exit.

Jane (Debi Mazar)... Rex Manning's ex-assistant... has shown obvious interest in Joe.

This thread will pick up where the movie left off (no need to re-write an already excellent film :)). I'd like to give this a try anyways. I really appreciate anyone who participates :). And off we go...

IC (Corey):

It had been one of the craziest days of my life, but as I danced on the roof of the store, the neon sign shining bright and my friends having fun all around me, I knew that everything was going to be all right. I felt A.J.'s arm slip around my waist and I leaned back against him, swaying to the music of the Gin Blossoms. Even through my plaid, wool skirt and white, cotton panties I could feel a growing hardness within his baggy pants. Tilting my head back, I whispered in his ear, "I'm so happy we'll be close next year. I can hardly believe you'll be in Boston!" I had loved him for so long; why had it taken me an etenity to realize it? Gina used to always tell me that I was all book-smarts and no common sense. I was definitely beginning to believe her. Turning in A.J.'s arms, I stood on tiptoes, leaning into him. Slowly bringing my smiling lips to meet his, I felt like my insides had turned to mush and that the only thing holding me upright was his hold on me. Our bodies matched up perfectly... just like our souls... When I finally pulled away from the kiss, I leaned my head on A.J.'s shoulder, sighed contentedly, and looked around the roof, observing the actions of my friends and co-workers....

I wanna be AJ

Dint know the movie, but after your posts in "best friends daughter" - I wanna play with you!

Welcome back eppy!
I'd love to be in your new production and would
like to play AJ, but the sad fact is it's my turn to be away for a few days. Monday-Friday. Is there a part you could give me that I could pick up at the end of the week?
Thanks,*blushing*
Your Tarzan

OOC: EEPY!! Welcome back! That was a short absence :) I'm sure I speak for everyone in the Tarzan thread when I say we'd love to have you back in anyway you want to rejoin. I haven't seen this movie so I'll hang out of this one but I'm glad you're back :)

Oh yeah, I use earthlink. It's OK but probably not much different from AOL.

[Edited by mars99 on 05-27-2001 at 05:12 PM]

Ariosto-- Hey! Thanks so much for posting! It's too bad that you'll be away :( It's okay, though. This thread may be put on hold for a bit anyway. I want to find some people who have seen the movie to get this thread started. It may be all right if those who come in later haven't seen it, but it'll be hard to start with people who don't really know what's going on, you know? Have you seen Empire Records, ariosto?

Catlover-- Thanks so much for your interest, but, like I said above, I think it would be easier for everyone if those who begin the thread have seen the movie. I hope you understand, and I hope I get the chance to write with you elsewhere:)

Mars99-- Hi! Yeah, I just couldn't stand to be away from you guys (just kidding!). Thanks for your post, and I'll definitely try to rejoin the Tarzan thread here in a bit. I hate to take Claire away from mya when she's doing such a beautiful job with her, so I'll just be creative and be someone else... That thread's already kinda confusing anyway, huh? Lots of OOC stuff... Oh, and thanks for you're emails... You're a sweet guy :)

Everyone-- Thanks for everyone who's read my extremely long intro to this thread. I'd like to get it started, but I also want it to be good, so I would like for the people who play the characters to know something about them. You don't have to have seen Empire Records a billion times or anything, but once would be very, very nice. If no one on here has, I'll have to use another movie or TV show. My favorite TV show of all time was Freaks and Geeks. Has anyone seen that? Would anyone be interested in playing the Nick to my Lindsey? Anyways, thanks to all who've shown interest, and I hope this'll work out!

i had an opportunity to watch "Empire records" today. I was excited as I scrolled through my satellite menu and saw it listed. I had read this thread and was interested but hadn't seen the movie. However, I missed the last part of the movie because I am too addicted to this site. LOL Maybe you could tell me how it ended.

I am intersted in the role of Gina.

Thanks!!

More OOC...

Thanks for posting MtnAngelWV! Gina's a wonderful character, and I'm sure you'd have fun with her.

At the end of the movie, Rex has left the store after being insulted by some of the workers, but Jane, his former assistant, has stayed behind and started flirting with Joe, the store manager. At a make-believe funeral, Debra has admitted that she has problems, and Corey and Gina have resolved their differences. Warren, a teenager, has come into Empire Records with a gun and been taken away by the police, but not before being hiring as an employee. Mark has run outside to use the news crew covering the incident as free advertising. He announces a big "get-together" to raise money and "save the Empire." People begin to gather for the party, and the employees collect donations and give the money to Joe, who buys the store from Mitch, his boss. Joe has forgiven Lucas for almost losing Empire Records to a corporation. At the big party, Gina has gotten over her stage fright and gotten up onto the roof and sung with a band. Corey has realized that she is indeed in love with A.J. and has run up onto the roof and told him that she hates him (yes, hates him) and he says he's going to art school and they kiss. Then everyone is up on the roof dancing and having a fun and exciting time...

That's what I remember anyway... It's been a couple of months since I've seen Empire Records, but I've seen it many, many times, so I think that's pretty close. Sorry if my summary confuses you, though. If you have a specific question, feel free to ask it :)

And the role of A.J. has been given to ariosto. But there are many, many characters still available. Please join us :)

Debra

Hey! I'd love to be Debra if you'd allow me (I'm like her in real life, 'cept I still have mass amounts of silky, blond hair).
I just watched Empire Records a few days ago, so I can help out with any questions, as well.

Even MORE OOC...

Thanks, Naoko! We'd love to have you join us! I'd really like to get some guys involved (and present) before we start. Ariosto is our A.J., so we may just wait til the end of the week when he returns to the boards. It would be much more fun to get started sooner, though... Are there any interested guys out there?? Please??...

wanna mow the lawn

welcome back eepy. sounds like a good thread unfortunately I have'nt seen Empire Records, so I'll just read along and enjoy...I'm sure. Just kidding about mowing the lawn. That thread kind of fell apart after you left. Anyway. Hi. If you start any other threads or see a place I might fit in, give me a holler, Ok? .....Afternooner, of course.

OOC:
eppy, I am writing this on the black keyboard of a laptop, in a dark motel room (all are asleep) at midnight. i peck out each word with some difficulty to impress you with my
perseverence and dedication. I believe that Thursday night even if I have to type in the 'John', I can assume the AJ role if you wish to start then. I see from the folks you are assembling for this that it will be a good one!...

from the shores of the Gulf of Mexico...ariosto

OOC

Thanks for the posts, afternooner and ariosto! I look forward to your return, ariosto. Corey will be eagerly awaiting you :)

Lucas?

I'm surprised no one has jumped at the opportunity to play Lucas. Empire Records has to be one of my favorite movies, and Lucas is definitely my favorite character. So if you'll have me, I'll play Lucas.

-Lemming
"Where ... is ... my ... money?"
"Recirculating."

Thanks for the synopsis eepy. I saw most of that so it wasn't too confusing...lol

Hope we can get some guys into this :)

Yay! We can start!

OOC:

It's no problem, MtnAngelWV. I'm glad you understood it :)

Thanks so much for joining, Lemming! I totally agree with you about Lucas. He's my absolute favorite character, and I would definitely choose him if I was gonna play a guy. He has so many good lines :) And I love when he dances. Personally, I think Rory Cochrane is quite sexy.

Now that we have 3 girls and 2 guys, we can go ahead and get started. If people want to join later and play untaken (hmmm, I don't think that's a word) characters, that'll be great, but if not, I'm sure we'll be fine :D

I will go ahead and repost my in character paragraph from the first post, and then I'll leave it open to you all to decide what your characters want to do, who they want to hook up with, etc. Remember, everyone's dancing on the roof of the store in the light of the big neon sign. We'll assume that the party is over. Where will everyone go from here??

My Corey and ariosto's A.J. will probably just look on until ariosto posts (if he can) on Thursday night. Until then, have fun!

Gina

What an absolute rush I was feeling. I had finally, finally gotten over my stage fright. I had never put so much passion into anything before. I had been with my share of men, yes. Well okay if the truth be known I had been with MORE than my fair share, but hell a girl only lives once. Not one of them gave me the same sense of satisifaction as saving the store from MusicTown. "Imagine some corporate slug trying to tell me how to dress. My clothes are my trademark," I thought to myself a small grin appearing on my face.

Part of my joy was seeing that AJ and Corey had gotten together. I feel partly responsible for their union. If I hadn't slept with that washed-up Rex Manning this would never have happened. Music was not the only thing that had passed Rex by, and he definitely was not the man would I want Corey to lose her virginity to. That may have commited her to a convent.

I snapped back to reality as I heard the Gin Blossoms blaring out of the speakers. I looked around the roof to see which male victim I could lure.

Debra

A brief, exciting happiness washed over me as I forgot all of my problems...but it didn't take long for the painful thoughts to return to me. "Suck it up...you can't wallow in self-pity and get anywhere..."
But I wasn't going anywhere, despite acting happy. I was just looking...silly...dancing around like some teenie-bobber at a Hanson concert. I needed to sit and take a break...
Quickly I made by way from the roof back into the store, finding salvation in Joe's office, where I could shut the door and do my best to block out the sounds of everyone laughing and having fun. Their happiness, oddly, seemed only a cruel mockery of my misery...

Shooting star...

AJ wasn't only dancing, he was flying. This may have been the roof above the store but right now it was the Milky Way and he was sailing high above it with heaven in his arms.
Corey and art school too. He must have done something pretty damned right for a change.

Her kiss still was candy on his lips and he just kept on tasting it. His hands were locked in the small of Corey's back, holding her tight against him. They slow danced in soft rhythym as though they were one body. He kissed her
eyes and nose and cheeks in 3/4 time. Her breasts were full and warm against him. He had an intense desire to eat her up she was so utterly delicsious.

A shooting star streaked across the night sky and everyone looked up.

"Make a wish everybody!"
Gina called out.

"You know what I wish Corey?"
he whispered in her ear.

She smiled at him...
"I bet I know."

Her hips moved against him in a motion that had nothing to do with the music.

"Oh yes!"
AJ moved in syncopated counterpoint...
"Oh yes."

Corey

OOC: I just found this page: http://members.tripod.com/~Empire626/EmpireRecords.html It has a summary of the movie and little descriptions of each character. It seems pretty good, except that every sentence ends with an exclamation point (grrr). It also has pictures (plentious but poorly sorted), which should be useful for descriptions.

IC:

I smiled and moved my hips against his, seeing a flash of lust in his eyes as he said, almost moaned, "Oh yes!" Mmmm, he was such a cutie! I was sooo glad I hadn't done it with Rex Manning. I shuddered at the thought. I felt him respond to my movements with similar ones, and I brushed my cheek against his, bringing my mouth within millimeter of his ear, his soft hair tickling my nose. "I'm so happy we'll be close next year," I breathed, "but right now, I want to be as close to you as possible. I want to show you how much I love you. That's my wish. Do you think it could come true?"

Come true?!
It was coming true right now.
AJ felt more of a man than he had ever felt in his life.
No Geni, no Fairy Godmother could have improved on this.
His hands moved across her back , from the shoulders to the waist trying to memorize each lovely contour. They slid down across the round swell of her buttocks reveling in the tight sweet curves.
Kissing her, feeling for her tongue with his, he pulls her hips against him wanting her to feel the
stiff hot length of him.

"Can you see what you do to me Corey?"
He whispered in her ear.

"I love you."

AJ was quite overwhelmed by the depth of his own sentiments at that moment and would willingly have jumped off the roof if she so directed. Instead taking his hand in hers she led him behind the bulk of the AC housing away from the celebration, where only the heavens could see them.

Taking his hands she pressed them against her breasts. He could feel her nipples budding under his palms.
She kissed him passionately and her tongue hungrily invaded his mouth.

The music faded.
the stars dimmed.
The world was shutting down to one thing.
Corey...Corey...Corey.

Clothes began falling softly to the rooftop.

Lucas

Maintaining a relaxed view of the world is ... difficult at times, to say the least. One of the more difficult times is watching two of your best friends' clothes just seem to fade off their bodies and onto the roof, so I decided to take that moment to, as they say, make a hasty retreat.
That isn't my only reason, of course. Debra's good mood hadn't seemed to last long. I knew it wouldn't last forever, but some people have a knack for killing a good mood by overthinking it.

This was the end of my train of thought as I opened the door to Joe's office, previously standing slightly ajar.

"Deb?" I asked, my voice carrying that strange timbre that it had recently taken on after my view of the world was changed the other night.
