"I have experienced sexism in that I have been directed by male directors 17 times and only twice by women."

IDIOT!

Actors tend to think they're smarter than they really are. I guess you play Hermione so many times you start thinking you're the smartest person in the castle.

Weren't ten of them the same guy in the same franchise?

Was it a man or a woman who gave her the break that made her richer than a Clinton?

She picked the jobs too, right? ...or did someone make her select projects directed by men?

Pretty much.

Women are about half the population.

They can change the system by simply refusing to participate in "male" projects.

Nice for jumping up and down like 3rd grade and calling her an idiot, when we don't fully know what she was referring to.
STFU and post some links, since this topic sounds interesting to me.

Rampant sexism in the NFL as well. When will we ever achieve "equality" which would mean the majority of NFL coaches and players are women.

Shirley, achieving more gender "diversity" in the NFL by actively discriminating against men would result in a much better outcome for all. It worked to make college so much more "educational."

There was more than one director for the Harry Potter movies.

And I've got a friend who is a female director. I've actually seen males in the film industry try to use Facebook to end her career.

I've also got a friend in stunt work, and seen Christian stunt people try to end his career.

Movies are a fucked up industry. Really weird environment.

Interesting… I worked in a couple of commonwealth countries, and in my work environment gender was not an issue at all (as I perceived it), which made me assume that things are generally like that. And growing up and during my youth, I seldom encountered it.
- But the movie industry...makes more sense, probably, since they have different values and it's all about looks and youth, which inevitably leads to misogyny. All these being applied to actors, initially, but they do tend to get spread out to other areas too.

On the other hand, I still can't get my head around why some american Litsters are so focused on the "gender war". I mean, is that an issue in the States? From my experience with the americans that I met + from what others told me, I was under the impression that the US was overall a pretty liberal country, at least when it comes to gender equality.

Yeah, a bunch of reactionary homophobes running tinsel town. It s so hard to get anything portrayed from a sensible, liberal point of view. Buncha fuckin right-wingnuts like Geffen and Speilberg runnin' things.

In the stuntwork industry, there's a lot of fundamnentalists who own the biggest companies. So, in that industry, you post left wing stuff online, you may have a problem.

As far as directors, this has more with producers. Movie producers are not a large groups. And they're mostly men, mostly don't want competition, and mostly crazy and don't want to give up some of the perks that they are accustomed to, which they definitely would need to if the industry, above the level of actors and writers, was actually not male dominated.

Men have no specific advantage, genetically, in this industry. It's a historical advantage.
