Looks like Mrs May is going to fuck Mr Corbyn at the ballot box, that should be good to watch.

Yes, very likely. Expecting any surprises in the next seven weeks?

Im not really bothered who gets in, but it would be good to put an end to "unelected leader"/Brexit arguments and just crack on with making the best of the vote.

What people in England and elsewhere don't know..

is that Ms May has triggered what might well be the last UK general election. The Tories will lose their only seat in Scotland to the SNP. The LibDems will lose their last too; it was won on the basis of proven lies last time. Both have majorities in hundreds. And Labour's only Scottish seat is little more secure, though their majority did reach low four figures.

Goodbye and good riddance, England. Scotland will soon join the many rich wee nations of Europe. The English have only their own behaviour to blame for the disappearance of the UK and the Union Jack.

Scotsman69 - All elections are a risky business.

The SNP's representation in Westminster could scarcely be larger than it is now. There is a risk that the SNP could lose a few seats (as could the Conservatives in England and Wales).

I would be surprised if the SNP increased their share of seats in Scotland.

But as usual the overall result will depend on marginal seats. I, my family and friends, could all vote for the Raving Monster Loony Party and it wouldn't make any difference in my constituency. Short of some major mistake by the Conservative candidate he/she will be elected locally with a share of the vote close to the total of all other candidates added together.

Everything depends on the next seven weeks and what the parties SAY they will offer the electorate. It won't be all about Brexit or the Scottish referendum even if some people wish it were.

All such talk does is increase hostility towards Scotland. When Scotlands economy is so tightly tied to the rest of the UK, that is a pretty stupid thing to do. Whatever happens, will happen. Trying to stir up racial hatred will only make it more difficult for both parties to deal with the aftermath. This election has not been called because of anything that happened in Scotland. It has been called because the files on the 22 Conservative MPs, accused of election fraud, have now been passed to the DPP. Mother Theresa knew that this morning. She also knew that if any of them was prosecuted it would force by-elections and she could lose her majority.

You may well find that the effect on Scotland will be the opposite of what you predict. My guess is that the tories will run the election in Scotland on the basis that the only way to stop Scotland leaving the UK is to vote Tory. Given the result of the last referendum, you may end up with a lot more Tories not less. Meanwhile the English, as opposed to their politicians will care less and less.

Scotland is faced with the choice of being part of the UK economy or the EU economy. Brexit will probably mean that they can't do both.

Things did not go too well pre the Act of Union for Scotland .
Remember the Darrien Venture .

If Scotland votes for independence it could end up outside the UK; outside the EU and unable to meet the criteria to join it even if the EU-27 want it to; outside NATO unless the submarine base stays; and certainly NOT in the pound sterling.

That could make it a wee broke country with very few friends or allies.

It is pretty clever of her really.
People are moaning she was no voted in, everyone knows there is a large opposition to brexit and obviously the JC fans all voicing their opinions and NS never ending campaign of splitting Scotland from the UK.

She is in as strong a position as she ever will be to call an election and in one fowl swoop should put an end to all of it.

Yes there is a risk she will be worse off but if you were a betting man you would not bet against her having a very large majority and cementing her position as PM.

What would you say the odds are of this backfiring on her...like with the referendum on Brexit?

I dont think Brexit backfired on her personally, it was not her plan to have the referendum.

I would be surprised if the election does backfire.

I voted for brexit, I did not think it would actually happen however (although happy it did). I did think it would be close, maybe not quite as close as it was.

I think if this vote is anything less than a whitewash it would be a disappointment for her.

I do not really have a political party I vote for, but I must admit that I do like Theresa May, or atleast what she has done.

She stood by Brexit despite it being against her own preferences.
She has stood for election due to the murmours....ie you are either behind me or I will leave which is pretty much as it should be.

As far as PMs go, I think she is giving a good accoun of herself regardless of whether you are a tory or not.

Indifference

One danger is that a lot of people are fed up of politics and won't vote. In that case there will still be the cries of lack of a real majority, so get out and vote.

The reality is that young people don't vote in General Elections any real numbers but they were more in favour of Remain. More younger people voted on the referendum than for normal elections. Older people (65+) tend to vote at twice the rate of under 25s - and older people tend to vote Conservative. Indifference is more likely to affect the young - but the older ones will still vote because they see it as their duty. They remember that many people died in WW2 to ensure that we still have the freedom to vote.

Older people can also remember the Europe we joined and how the EU has evolved to be nothing like that.

Calling the election had nothing to do with her being unelected. She made it perfectly clear that only Labour Prime ministers need to be elected. It has nothing to do with murmurs or being for her or against her. It has to do with the threat of losing her majority.

That very Morning she was told that 22 of her MPs faced charges of Electoral fraud which would have resulted in 22 By-elections. All of them in marginal constituencies. The election was called to ensure survival.

Now she can try and bury the scandal with electioneering.

Think May might just have f#cked herself lol
Corbyn would be good for so many reasons.
But as usual, it'll be self interest and greed that puts the liar May back in charge.
Hang your heads in shame if you vote for her, or if you read the Daily Mail or trust the BBC news.
Channel 4 news gives a much truer vision of reality in the UK today.

No. If Scotland was detached from the UK their finances would be worse than those of Greece. The EU would not allow them to join. The only way that Scotland will become independent is if they give the English the vote.:)

I reckon a May majority of 60+ and at least that parasite Speaker Bercow might get the chop. Good to see the fool George Gideon Oliver Osborne has gone already.
