Election to German parliament

I just have to get some disappointment off my head. We elected a new parliament yesterday, a year early because in late spring the government decided they didn't have the power in parliament to continue.
Then, during the summer all parties decided that they only want one sort of coalition (the actual government of social-democrats and ecologicals versus the conservatives and liberals). A fifth party on the left spoiled the fun by becoming so big that both these coalition options don't get the majority in parliament needed to elect the chancellor. So they maneuvered themselves into the position of not being really able to form a coalition to govern this countrey.
Which proves again how stupid it is to decide on possible partners BEFORE knowing the options.

I'm quite pissed that we won't get the change we would need. It's just so in line with the current feeling of standing still, an election where all parties are pretty equal in strength (the two big ones and the three small ones each in their 'group').

Yes, was a topic of discussion we had this weekend in between other things more pleasant. I empathise with you and wonder when political situations will begin to improve in more places.

Catalina :rose:

This is the danger of not having only two almost identical parties.

Coke or pepsi?

While the two big ones are pretty similar (especially when fighting terrorism and civil rights to do so), there are quite some differences between the smaller ones, especially in their principles.
I'm starting to get curious as to what they will do and who will have to end their political career to achieve this... But it will probably take weeks until they finished their talking about a coalition. Doubly difficult, because they will all have to talk to each other, probably three parties will have to agree...

Still, I like to drink water, lemonade, iced tea, coffee, wine and many other things, so I'm glad we have more than Coke or Pepsi

I watched the news coverage with interest.
It always interests me as to who actually gets in when there is a European election and what that will mean for the rest of Europe.
Will watch with interest

This two party thing sounds familiar.

Two large parties that are nearly identical. A few small parties that have no chance of winning anything on their own. This sense of futile helplessness and frustration as nothing ever changes except for corruption which grows and grows.

And then, one day you realize that your country is actually being run by corporations.

I feel for you girl. Some iced lemonade would be nice though.

Now the two big parties are fighting nasty for the power, while the small ones still say they won't cooperate with the other big party and each other.
Oh, well, my aunt made the prediction that it will be Christmas until we have our new government. I really hope it will be a bit faster than that...

At least the weather is nice, very cold though, thus my drink of choice at the moment is hot tea. :)
