Feinstein's Approval Rating Sinks to Historic Low in New Poll

Judiciary CommFor most of her 29 years in the U.S. Senate, Dianne Feinstein has consistently enjoyed some of the highest approval ratings among California's elected officials. But not anymore.

A new poll from UC Berkeley's Institute of Governmental Studies finds that just 35% of registered California voters approve of the job Feinstein is doing, while 45% disapprove and 20% have no opinion.

It's the first time her approval rating has dipped below 44% since 1993. It's also the first time voter assessments of her have sunk underwater in surveys by Berkeley IGS, or the now-defunct Field Poll, since 1993.

The Berkeley IGS poll was taken Jan. 23 to Jan. 29 this year among 10,357 registered voters in California. The survey was conducted online in English and Spanish and has a sampling error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.

At the age of 87, Feinstein is the oldest member of the U.S. Senate. Her recent performance as a member of the Senateittee has drawn criticism, especially from Democrats who disapprove of her cozy relationships with Republicans on the committee.

CRS strikes hard!:)

Feinstein was a great rep over the years, perhaps a little more liberal at times than I would have liked, but she definitely seemed to have the best interests of her constituants, and the country, at heart.

With that said, yeah, it's clearly time for her to go. Pass the torch and move on.

I don't see how this marks Democrats as being in disarray. This is a personal issue. The woman is ancient and going batty.

As usual Keith your lack of sense of humor shines thru. :D

Dem's are fat and happy now that the Pee-Resident is twice impeach and losing his ass in the trial. The GQP is losing it shit and shedding members left and right!:D:D:D:D

We just need 17 Repub Senators to throw Donnie under the bus and cast his ass off the pier. :)

I don't have any trouble laughing at you and your political naivete, Jack. :)

Feinstein is losing it and should have packed it in long ago and on the same basis there are at least half a dozen others who should also go. Jack should put the totally ineffectual Sanders up there alongside Feinstein. Did you observe how the pathetic old fool slept through the hearing today?

You can't claim a principle Jack without including all the folks it applies to.

Among so many others this bag of crap is near the top of my list of arguments FOR term limits.

You read too much RAW and fail to realize how much they are lying to you.

KeithD is wrong, you're not naïve, you're just a lefty who's gone all in on the Kool-Aid.

Term limits, because (D)'s can't stop voting for garbage LOL

They aren't responsible enough.

Is there ANY level of civic responsibility you (D)'eez are willing to hold??? Or is everything the governments job to do for you??

This reminds me about a former sheriff of our local city. She was aging, very deaf, and sat at the front in the council chamber so she could lip-read.

But because she was at the front she couldn't see her fellow councillors and her deafness sometimes meant she didn't follow the debate. She had to be poked in the ribs if she raised her hand to vote the 'wrong' way.

But the voters liked her because, despite her hearing problems, she would listen to them. She served one term longer than she should have done because so many people wanted her to stand for election. She had served many years as an efficient and much-respected councillor, but four years too long,

no, and neither did you unless you were there as it was part of the agreement by the senate that no cameras would be pointed into the crowd to observe their reactions. (if he WAS seated in a cam-visible area, I cry your pardon but I didn't notice him). The reports of him "appearing to be dozing off" could have as easily applied to him closing his eyes from time to time as he listened, in order to better help him shut out any extraneous sensory information. I often listen to the news with my eyes closed as well as watching it in the normal way... depends on what they are speaking about. It helps me concentrate on the information while reviewing it simultaneously in my head in a kind of 'fact-checking/comparison' exercise.

Ah Butters so your eyes were shut. Probably why you didn't notice the decrepit old goat. It doesn't change the substance that in a 40 year political career of seat warming all Sanders has done is change the name of a couple of post offices.

It's easier to concentrate on the substance of a thread with open eyes, and a whole bunch of these oldsters need to go, Sanders, Feinstein, Shelby, Pelosi, McConnell, Grassley, Leahy, Inhofe and a whole bunch more. Average age of Senators is 62 and septuagenarians +, outnumber either blacks or women. So representitive!

I have the moral authority on this one Butters, because I'm 82 and you are a stripling gal! (that's a comment on relative age, no disparagement of sex /gender intended :D)

i bow to your 20 years' seniority and dubious moral authority, c.d, but i did have my eyes open for this trial :cattail: watching the reaction by trump's defense idiot ("who asked this question?! *poutrage*"), and his then looking towards (i assume) sanders in the main body of the floor seating as he continued to address bernie's "ME", bernie was seated away from the set viewpoints of the cameras allowed.

Is there growing rift developing between Senate Democrats?

On Tuesday, fast-food workers in 15 different cities across the U.S. went on strike to demand $15 an hour wages from McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's. In the midst of a pandemic and ensuing unemployment crisis, Democrats are poised to meet that demand and increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour — a move that would boost incomes for 32 million workers across the country, many of whom work in jobs deemed essential and front-line during the pandemic — but a couple of Democratic senators look to be standing in the way.

"We're feeling really good. We think we've got a good shot," Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, told reporters last week. "We've got to raise the minimum wage to a living wage of $15 an hour and that's what the American people want and that's what I intend to do."

A Covid-19 relief bill was approved in the Democratic-controlled House Education and Labor Committee last week that includes increasing the minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 an hour, over a period of 4 years. But Democrats who narrowly control the Senate can't afford to lose any votes, so recent rumblings from Arizona's Krysten Sinema and West Virginia's Joe Manchin have progressive activists concerned.

How much is enough to feed and clothe two kids on one wage in Ariz and WV?
