This damn beige box never ceases to confuse me - I've been having trouble burning CD's. For months now. So I finally, finally go into "Help," and start reading - go figure, must be a "guy" thing. None the less - I hit brick wall after brick wall.

On our recent systems change over - we all went NT from Windows - in Help I find recommendations to "turn off - uncheck," the "auto insert notification," regarding CD-R devices. Apparently this "searching for active device" thing can screw up burning your CD. Okay, I can buy that.

For NT users Help recommends that you go to "my computer" and find "General Page of Preferences" and turn-off/uncheck this "auto-insert" option. Cool.

But, but, but - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Fuck.

I can't find anything - even when doing a search - that says anything remotely like "General Page of Preferences."

So - what the fuck is an idiot like me supposed to do? How the fuck to these plastic-pocket-protector asshole geeks think old analogue thinking mother-fuckers like me are going to make head or tales of this shit when - "there are fucking secrets!?!"

What!?! Do they think I'm some fucking 12 years old tirelessly hunting for some game code, for a magic door that will gain me access to 23 zombies to blast with an unlimited ammo shotgun? Do they think I have the fucking time to do that shit.

My guess is that quite a few more months will go by before I even try to burn a CD again.

Feelin' about a 2 - hope you all have a better day than I.

Mornin', Sparky.
I had the computer for five months before I even tried to burn a CD, and it took me two weeks to follow the simple instructions and figure out how to do it.

I could burn 'em fine.

But they never worked in a cd-rom. Got quite a collection of coasters. Upgraded to CD-RW and have had no problems. Good morning to ya'.

Morning Sparky. I'm sorry you're having such a bad time with your computer. Here's what you do. Go find the youngest person you work with. Preferably under 20, and have them fix it for you! I know nothing about NT, so can't help you myself.

13 degrees this morning, and my cold water pipe is frozen again. I'm hoping it will thaw out today, or the husband type person will fix it for me.

Where the hell is Expertise? Doesn't that man answer his email anymore? :( Hmm, maybe I will go be sarcastic to someone else, then.

WooHoo I am a 10 today despite the runny/stuffy nose, my boys are back in school.

I have actually burnt(?) a couple......

But the ones I have burnt(?) successfully have been straight forward - in point/out point - just straight copies.

When ever I tried something more complex - like building a custom assortment of varied songs from lots of different CD's - crash city! Always toward the end of timing out too.

I mean blue screen shit.

This might help

Sparky,

Turn off every program except the cd burning one in your tray, instant messaging, ICQ, weather programs, etc. For some reason, all of the programs that have real time access to the web will shut it down every time. Also, rip your songs to mp3 first, I have trouble recording from discs too. Adeptec is a great program for this, and it automatically convert mp3 to wav for recording. Hope this helps.

Ambro

Thanks Ambro....

But me thinks I should back up a bit.......

I tried to create (?) or burn (?) an MP3 yesterday - I thought this Sonic Foundry Sound Forge XP 4.5 was here to do that - but apparently not. Anyway - I could not do it.

On my NT 4.0 computer I've got.....

HPCD-Writer Plus (the one that crashes out on long comlex burns)

Real Player

Sonic Foundry w/CD Architect, Sound Forge XP 4.5 and Acid

And Napster.

So, does any of this stuff let me make an MP3?

Of course my goal with all this stuff is to take "audio sources" from anywhere and re-arrange'em and eventually burn a CD.

Advise please.

I've used Sonic Forge and Cd architect, but to mix with mainly, and do not know if they will convert wav to mp3. Napster DOES download in mp3 format. You might check out AudioGrabber, it was free last time I looked. And if you can find a copy of Adeptec, it is awesome. Sorry I couldn't help more.

im a 1 read my thread you will understand!!

And no April Expertise doesnt answer his mail anymore!! I had to find him on the board and attack him!!

<peeking in and wondering whats wrong, he answers mine. Maybe he is upset because we forgot to ask how his tournament turned out last week. Ducking and hiding now>

Ah hah! Yea!!!! I did it!

I composed a musical piece on Acid - entitled Slick Pavement - a bit of a dark jazzy groove with a skronking sax! I created a Wave file! My Sound Forge had Adeptec in it. (I didn't know that!!!) Thanks Ambro. I then burnt a CD.

Now I will take it home - select some appropriate lyric from my voluminous stash of quirky Spark shit and lay it and some cool guitar shit against it on my Fostex digital recording studio.

The next big event will be when I learn how to post a Wave file on the board so you all can hear the madness.

Any clues to this one - please let me know.

Shot up to a 10 this afternoon.

PS - I've been told (but don't think it's true) that Slick Wily has secured office space in the building in which I work.
