So I'm writing a story. The plot basis is still under construction, but I have a rough idea. At the moment, all I need is someone to review the beginning sequence of my story and tell me if it does these things:
- Gives a good feeling of the main character's attitude, motives and personality
- Is gripping/interesting enough to not bore the reader right out of the gate
- Feels like it fits with the theme and idea of the story
To help with that analysis, here's what the story is based around so far:
- Ashley (main character) just had a hellish 2014 after coming out to her parents and friends that she's gay
- She goes to a huge New Year's party before leaving her hometown for good and while there, promises herself that 2015 will change everything
- On her way home a frantic, confused, 18th century British girl (Name TBD) appears in front of her
- Confronted by some kind of cult based around this phenomena, Ashley and Random Past Girl flee
- They are almost hunted down, but are rescued by another mysterious group, apparently committed to fighting/stopping the first group
- They're involvement in the battle forces them to learn how to use each other to survive in the real world while avoiding the bad guys. Along the way, Past Girl has to adapt to the future with Ashley's help
- Eventually, Ashley falls in love with Past Girl and, having never actually had a girlfriend before, must find a way to coax the same feelings out of Past Girl.
