Editor Certification & Reward

Perhaps it's my 20 years of military experience talking, but should being a Lit editor consist of more than just a desire? I realize this is not a life or death issue as it was in my day, but what about prestige?

I can empathize with the problem of manpower (sorry, ladies, I didn't make the word!). But briefly imagine having "test" stories where a willing person had to edit to a certain degree of accuracy and within a time criteria in order to be accepted as an editor. A test of sorts to become a certified editor. And then randomly evaluate them with test stories and verify they are still conforming.

Yeah, in a perfect world, right? But it is do-able.

Oh, and the reward part. If an editor edits an award-winning story they should share in the prize, 50/50, or some other percentage.

I love your idea hun....truly love it......even though it's a perfect utopia. :(

Lit hardly has the womanpower to approve editor profiles using the 'submit profile' box on the member page. I doubt we could ever get an essay requirement or test story requirement in place, and even were it to happen, the result would likely be a year to approve an editor rather than the six months it is taking now.

Good idea, but as with all ideals - as they approach realty the cost becomes prohibitive.

I suspected it was a lofty goal when I wrote it. But I had to say it.

Of course kbate is right. I don't say that maliciously, she's just being realistic. Even as I wrote my diatribe I knew it would never come true. It is wishful thinking after all.

Absolutely nothing wrong with wishful thinking hun. Some of the best things that happened in life happened because someone somewhere wished them to be true.

As to the prestige bit ... there was a thread some time ago proposing the compulsory crediting of the VE(s) in the posted story. It was, quite rightly, pointed out that the editor might not have all (her)his suggestions accepted, and might then be very unhappy to be associated with the resulting story.

If something like this were to be implemented, I would like it to be optional. A set of credentials is created which a person can earn if they wish. The authors then can choose to go with people who have the credentials or not. To require anything would go against the vibe of Literotica. Here anyone who wants to be an author is an author and anyone who wants to edit is an editor. I would love to be able to put direct links to stories I edited which I am proud of on my Editor profile though. It would basically build a resume for an author to review and select. Even better would be a marked document showing me at work. They could take a look at it and decide if that's what they want or not.

If something like that could be implement I'm pretty sure all the serious editors would receive it with a whooping THANK GOD!!!, unfortunately, as I'm sure you know, we VE don't have much power so we only have to hope that when a new remodeling will occur Lit's management will think about improving the editor's system and use some ideas we've given them over the years.
