First time reaching out to reaching out for an editor.

I finished writing part one of a short story and need help sharpening it and give it a good overview if plot, characters, and details makes sense and is engaging. I've tried writing and editing other stories on my own but they have been rejected before.

What's the story about (especially, which category would it go in) and how many words is it?

The story is about a mind controller entering a woman's home and forcing her to watch over her "dolls" (hypnotized people) for storage. The category is mainly mind control. The word count for part one is over 2800 words.
