This is not meant to be a bashing but as an offer of help for writers.

I have seen many stories that thank their editors for helping them. More often than not I see stories that don't seem to have been edited.

I am not an English major or even care about English classes much, but in the business that I am in, spelling and grammar are a big deal. I notice many misspellings and wrong use of words (ex: to - too).

If any writers/submitters would like to use me as their editor, I would gladly do it. I don't want the recognition, just the ease of reading!

You might want to post your offer in the editor's forum.

It may be time to consult with an editor...

If I get the nerve to submit more, I may just take you up on your offer.

On the other hand, I'll need more help than just grammar and spelling. <chuckle>

I can do more than just spelling and grammar! Today I was editing business presentations for all kinds of things including mathematical errors.

Editors have little control over what their authors do with the comments they make on a story. In the publishing world an editors' refusal to pass something on can keep the project from being published. Here on Lit editors comments, even grammatical changes, can be viewed as mere suggestions. Perhaps the author thinks the editor may be an idiot and posts the story with few or minimal changes. Then with the thank you up there it looks like the editor was negligent but it could've been the author exercising ultimate control over the course of the project. Editors may deserve some of the blame for poorly written stories but they certainly can't be given all of the blame.

What you say is true. Even in the small world of E-Book publishing an Editor can stop a work from being published. If here the Editors have no such power then I would think twice about having my rep possibly tarnished by an author who ignores suggestions for needed changes.
