Editing my own stuff... I mean...

It does not make any difference how many times I re-read and check a piece I have written. When reading, I always get right back into whatever I am writing about and my eyes just gloss over erroros.

Basically, if spell/grammar check doesn't find it. and sometimes when it does, it just stays fucked up until it is actually printed (or posted, here) and then every error seems to be in large blinking light neon lights that my eyes cannot avoid even if I tried!

And so it is with the first piece I have posted here in years... damn it.

http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=370937

I know I need to have someone else edit it before posting, and I tried. But the people I asked who shall remain nameless, Sarrahhh, are very busy people, being sluts and all and I understand. I hate imposing on friends anyway.

Eventually, I got impatient and now....

FUCK!!!

It has been awhile... Remind me..is there anyway to fix all this now or is it too late?

Advice will be appreciated...

Friendly derision will be expected....

(Speaking of derision, there were a few SPAM threads in the last day or so... that should have been archived somehow!)

Thanks...

I find it helps to change the font, text size, indentation, page size, etc. Gives you a fresh look to see stuff that has become invisible. Likewise, a test-pasting into the Literotica submit-and-preview pane helps, too.......Carney (who feels your pain)

Yep.

Often what appeared ready enough gets set back and back. Submitted, posted, then edited numerous more times.

I also understand the pain - but sometimes it's less pain and more like lovingly scratching an itch, and it feels soooo good. Sometimes.

Ahhh so post-post (so to speak) editing is possible?

I will look into this..

Thanks!

If you want to edit something already posted, submit the edited version just like you would submit a new story. In the title, put "A Reprobate in Russia - EDITED." A note in the comment section requesting that they replace the old version with the new might also help. It won't appear on the new list again and you should keep your score and comments.

Aw, now you're being a little hard on yourself.

By the way, I've been meaning to ask - maybe I shouldn't ask so publicly: but is your username some way related to those who produce sweet snacks?

You can also click on the 'Awaiting Approval' tab in your queue, before the story is posted, and replace the story with a newer version. Assuming, of course, that you find errors in the story before Lit puts it up.

I've always self-edited for Lit. yes, I know it shows, but I manage to catch most of the glaring errors after reading through it three or four times after it's done. I tried to go with an editor once, but I got too impatient.

I see posting on Lit as more or less a 'test market' for my stories. A certain bar has been set regarding story and writing quality, but it is not the strict bar which mainstream publication demands. Therefor, I don't feel the need to be overly perfectionist. ;)

You know it's funny.... It is such a strange and inane name, I thought someone would have asked before...

Actually, it is really about nothing, so much. My friend, Sweetsubsarrah, who basically enticed me to come on here, posted a reference to the Keebler elves leaving crumbs in her back yard in the middle of an un-related thread, which at the time struck me as very funny, but was totally ignored at the time.

So the name, really, is just an homage, if you will, to my friend. It makes it all the more humorous to me when some of the denizens herein make fun of it..

But you can call me...

Anytime.

Tonight, my favorite naughty uncle, I shall find time to read and edit?

We are taking the family to the pool today, weather finally permitting from the last ten days! But that's our plan. Once home, it'll be time to relax.

And read porn.

:D

Hi Keeblercrumb, don't think we've come across each other before. I reckon your problem isn't that rare, certainly it's happening to me all the time.

It sound stupid, but when I reckon a story is as good as I can get it, I print off a copy, find somewhere quiet and read it through. It's crazy how many blatant errors I find on that read through

Set the story aside for a few days and then review it for errors.

KEEBLER

I have to set stuff aside to edit because I have so many irons in the fire, and my girl friend is awful, demanding porn, humor, and philosophy.

I'm re-writing BABY GOT BACK to a parody about oil men( I LIKE BIG BUCKS, I CANNOT LIE)

ahh... I see. So you were only made fun of during the username lifespan herein. Happened to me too, with my RL username, but mainly during the times of youth. Much less in adulthood (references to sweetness and the confectionary turns out advantageous). And though I have sprinkled and dribbled a few crumbs in a few backyards here and there... it wasn't me.

Oh, and the suggestion to print out a copy and go read it away from the machine (I prefer the kitchen table) - amazing all the crumbs I catch - and can see what and where what goes and don't. I do recommend this proofreading method - see, I've been inkless lately, and I can really tell the difference.
