Edited Story did not post...

I apologize if this is the wrong section for this thread.

Long story short I had my first story published on the 14th. It's gotten pretty solid ratings so far but I was unhappy with certain aspects so I decided to edit it. I read the FAQ about editing and corrected glaring typos and rewrote several scenes to my liking. I submitted the text with "edited" in the title.

The submission had been pending until tonight when I checked. I assumed this meant the original text had been replaced with the edited submission. But when I looked at my story, the same text was there, unedited.

I would simply resubmit the edited story but I stupidly did not save a copy of it for myself. I don't have any word processors on my computer so I did all of my corrections in the submission box of this site.

I would be bummed if my edit was lost, especially since its impossible to remember what exactly I wrote in the rewrite.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do or if I did anything wrong? Could I email someone to see where the edited submission has gone? Or am I just out of luck?

There have been threads on replacing stories. IIRC (but definitely check this), you post the old with "DELETE" in the notes, wait until it's gone, and post the new.

TIME OUT! Don't delete the story and repost!

Edits take at least 24 hours to appear on the public side of the site now. Wait that long ( maybe longer, if your story is long ) after the "edit" submission vanishes from your list, and then check again.

Sometimes, on long stories/chapters, not all the edits may show up together, either. Page 1's edits may show up, then a few hours later, page 2 and 3's, etc.

I know, but not everybody will follow that advice

I try to put that 24 hour notification in every one of these posts that comes up anyway. That way, anyone searching before posting will see the information, regardless of which thread they pull up.
