Edging techniques

For anyone who has ever edged a man (including yourself) - what techniques do you use? Not just how do you arouse him, but how do you keep him from shooting off? When you see that imminent ejaculation, how do you stop it? And how do you know when he is THIS CLOSE to blowing the load?

I'm working on a story for Lit, and I'm looking for real-life examples to help make it more realistic. Thanks!
