It's late, after a long day of school or work. You sit in front of you computer in your pajamas, browsing through websites, writing e-mails, talking on instant messengers. You're under stress from everything. "Born to be Wild" plays on your radio, but every day is the same, monotonous routine. You need a vacation.
Suddenly, you come across something that catches your attention. It's a pop-up, or a "junk" e-mail. It's almost excessively colorful, with palm trees flanking the text, obviously supposed to be reminiscent of an island. You go to exit, or delete it, but decide to read it for just the hell of it.
You snort slightly, what a ridiculous idea. But, then again, it is exactly what you've been looking for. Figuring you have nothing better to do, you decide to fill out the form...
Nearly a month has passed since you filled out that little form, and you've completely forgotten it. It's been a long day, and a boring one. You mill about your house aimlessly, looking for something to distract you, when the phone rings.
On the other line is a certain Mr. Donovan - and he has good news.
Now, onto a description of the island itself. It's a small, privately owned island in the Caribbean, about eight miles wide and four miles across. Nearly entirely covered in lush tropical forests, the western end of the island rises to a small "mountain" of two-hundred feet. The island is, of course, surrounded by beautiful white-sand beaches, and hosts a barrier reef that surrounds most of the island - perfect for snorkling or diving.
The resort itself is nestled in the middle of the island, nestled on top of a steep slope overlooking a lagoon on the southern side. It holds approximately fifty people at maximum, so expect plenty of room. Each guest has their own suite, consisting of a bedroom with elegant king-size beds with hangings, a large veranda overlooking the water, a luxurious bathroom with a jacuzi, and a living room/kitchen.
But, why would you eat in your room when you could go to the always-open bar, or dining area which serves gourmet food for breakfast (if you amazingly wake up early), lunch, dinner, and a midnight buffet. The resort also houses two swimming pools and two two hottubs. One pool is on the island-side of the resort, surrounded by lush foliage with a black marble bottom. The other is on the ocean side, and is literally built into the cliff (image - that's the idea, just imagine it's overlooking water instead). The first hottub is adjacent to the island-side pool, and the other is close to the hotel, but isolated on the water-side.
A short path winding down the slope leads you to a section of the beautiful beaches, where you can take out a sailboat, catamaran or kayak for the day (snorkling or diving equipment can be obtained inside the resort).
The island is one of the most beautiful and diverse of all the island in the Caribbean, hosting many natural wonders. The walk to the rise on the western end takes about 20 minutes, but is well rewarding. On the top is a look-out tower that rises another thirty feet, providing for exceptional views of the island and water. The true gem here, however, is located on the far side, where an unobtrusive path leads to a hot-spring. Surrounded by cliffs on three sides, the floor of the spring is worn smooth rocks, and the steamy air and echoing cliffs provide for a mystical ambiance.
The spring has an outlet, which carves its way through the mountain in a rock-tunnel to emerge on the side. From here, it travels downward (cool by now) and across the entire mountain. This stream winds across the length of the entire island. In some areas it widens and becomes almost rapid-like, but for the most part it is a shallow and calm brook, surrounded by vegitation and excellent for wading.
In three places, the land cuts off abruptly, producing waterfalls. The first is wide and loud - best for looking at only. The second is smaller, flowing over a series of rocks to cascade down to the most rapid-like area. The third, however, is excellent. Near the eastern side, close to the end, the river branches into two, one larger and one much smaller. The smaller course finds its way to yet another cliff, where it's choked into a fall only a foot wide, and falls in a gentle cascade about fifteen feet. This fall empties into a pool only about a foot deep, and the water is pure enough to shower in.
Possibly the most unique aspect of the island is the magnificent rock formations on the north-eastern end. Here the island curves into a hooked end, much like a J on its side. This lagoon is covered in rock formations found only one other place in the world (the Baths in the Virgin islands). Huge boulders have been shaped by the omnipresent tides, creating elaborite caves and beautiful rock pools (View 1, View 2, View 3, View 4).
As you arrive at the island by helicopter, after taking a free flight to a more well-known, nearby island, you are greeted by a man in his late forties, wearing a crisp suit and a smile on his face. He introduces himself as Mr. Donovan, the owner of this resort. He explains that your stay here is something along the lines of a "trial run" for the resort, see what things work and what don't. Everything during your stay will be free, and all you have to do is fill out a detailed response at the end. With that (and a shake of his hand), you are lead to your room by a porter who graciously carries your bags, and then informs you that you are encouraged to join your fellow guests on the veranda on the bottom floor to get to know each other in approximately. With a smile, he leaves.
Welcome to Ecstasy Island.
OOC: So, the thread is finally up. Note to all newcomers: This is a private thread, although any males interested in some last-minute joining can do so through the OOC thread. Of course, OOC should be mostly limited to that aforementioned thread, or PMs if you can help it. Other than that, I encourage everyone to enjoy themselves. P.S. - Hope you all enjoy the outdoors, as you can see I've placed heavy emphasis on it!
