"You put the supply out there, and the demand will follow." Bless his pointy little head. Hint: Trump didn't say it...yet. But one of his secretaries, not surprisingly, did.

Was it an Obama holdover???

Is this just a pale imitation of busybody?

Why didn't you include a link?

Was it because the quote needs to be taken out of context in order to make some sort of arcane point?

I didn't include a link because the snippet was so small that it was completely unnecessary.

The point I was trying to make is that Perry is as much of an uninformed idiot as Trump is.

I did and it's equally stupid.

The Say's law of markets is an economic rule that says that production is the source of demand. According to Say's Law, when an individual produces a product or service, he or she gets paid for that work, and is then able to use that pay to demand other goods and services.

It's not a rule that people get paid for their work.
If I produce a trillion horse drawn buggys there's still going to be no demand for them.

Say's Law is evidently false per the highlighted article. Or as is know by anyone who has has taken an Introduction to Economics class.

It really should read "If and when he or she gets paid for that work, and is then able to use that pay to demand other goods and services

I know politics is getting more confusing all the time, but seeing a Texas Republican spouting what sounds an awful lot like Soviet economic theory is still kind of surprising.

Says law doesn't "say" that anything you produce will create demand. it doesn't even suggest that supply will create its own demand.

I don't know why you'd pick such an anachronistic example if something's already obsolete we already know what the demand for that will be because it's obsolete. Try picking an example of something that is not obsolete.

For example the iPhone created not only its own demand for itself but demands for similar products, demand for cellphone contracts demand for cell towers.. it revolutionize an entire field because someone produced something.

Those little fidget spinners are an example of something that no one knew they wanted until someone decided to produce some. Production of them led to demand.

no one is suggesting producing things that we already know no one wants. Before anyone produces anything they do some market research to decide whether or not there is going to be demand if they produce.

That said, I seriously doubt that Perry knows any of that and probably simply mispoke.

Thanks Trumper!!

Trumper's article contained a nice little caveat that is worth repeating:

Say's Law is frequently misinterpreted as "supply creates its own demand," which is evidently false. If it were true, anyone could do whatever they wanted for a living and be successful at it.

"Supply creates its own demand" is exactly what Secretary Perry erroneously claimed.

Flawed logic. A in no way implies B.

Good post.

I don't think you know what exactly means. Demand FOLLOWS supply is not "exactly" supply CREATES demand.

Things that are DIFFERENT are neither the same, nor EXACTLY the same.

...and "less than human" does not mean "subhuman", right?

Some more contemporary examples then:
  • Queerbait alts
  • AJ cut-n-pastes
  • Busybody rants

If supply truly did produce demand, you three would be wealthy.

But it doesn't, and you aren't.

Posts this:

"Say's Law is frequently misinterpreted as "supply creates its own demand," which is evidently false. If it were true, anyone could do whatever they wanted for a living and be successful at it."

Then harrumps, "If supply supply truly PRODUCES demand."

-still doesnt understand the concept of demand FOLLOWING, not being CREATED by supply. Even after having had it patiently explained to him.
