It was Fourth of July weekend and the circus had come to town. It meant rides, games on the midway and sideshows. Shows under the Big Top. Elephants, horses, and seals balancing balls on their noses. Clowns on stilts and piled into miniature cars like so many sardines. There were ladies in tights walking the highwire and the Ring Master in his top hat and tails. Cotton candy and candy apples. Hot dogs on sticks and fries sprinkled with vinegar. Roasted peanuts and fresh lemonade. Most of all it meant people. Hundreds of people laughing and talking and calling out to friends. Having fun. Enjoying themselves.
It wasn't, however, fun for one particular member of this circus - but we'll get to him in a little while.
In the meantime... read along as NickisSora and I tell you the story of the time the circus came to a small town in New Jersey and how it changed the lives of some people who lived there.

Thanks, Nick, for a great idea.
