Is a program that we have where the folks from the home office come out to the field to learn first hand the effectiveness, (and sometimes the lack of it,) of the programs and decisions that they have sent down to the stores. It’s a good idea, putting the home office in direct contact with the field, so that they can see how the rubber meets the road.
This week I have had Store Planning in to “help” redo the Toy Department. They have actually been more a pain in the ass then help. They insist on following the plan-a-gram exactly, until we find something that just won’t work. Then the real fun begins. For instance, they had allocated 14 inches to an item that was 18 inches long. Normally, I would just move things around until I found the extra space. Not this week. We’ve had to fill out a three-part “correction of errors” form with an exact description of the problem, then move things around until we found the extra space, and finally fill out another form with an exact description of the solution. I understand how this well help fix the problem for other stores, but it still means that I’m getting half as much done in twice the time.
OK, I’m done ranting now, it was a long night.
