Currently I'm using Earthlink as my internet access.......... yeah, I know, but it's not my choice. Anyway, on the top tool bar there is a dropdown menu that allows the history of viewed sites and addresses to be seen, and the 'search' funtion there can be quite revealing. I've tried to delete these items to no avail............. others have access to my computer and I'd rather they NOT see my activities - no, nothing illegal, but even a visit here becomes part of that list. Anyone have a solution for this?

Thanks.............

are you talking about an earthlink toolbar or a toolbar that's part of your browser?

It's an Earthlink toolbar. Just to the right of the 'back' arrow in the upper left corner of the screen is a little double right tic, clicking on it brings up a drop down menu with 'history' in it. Yes, I regularly clear my Internet Explorer history in Windows.

I'm not sure if I can help you - but will try :) I use the Earthlink Experience (the bring your own DSL connection thingy) so I do not have the main "Toolbar" anymore, but do have the tool bar on IE browser. Anywhere on your tool bar, do you have a privacy selection? On the IE tool bar, this is to the very left part of the screen under the section "Earthlink." In that option on my computer, I see where I can select how high I want the privacy settings to be - and where I can clear the history.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Sassy
Yes, I have that too, it takes me to the same IE options window where I can clear cookies and internet pages on the 'general' tab. That gets rid of the IE part of my history, but it still leaves the Earthlink history intact. I have found I can clear some of the history by deleting 'today' activity, but it still leaves a history trail when you 'search' by putting in say, 'a' and searching. Some addresses can be deleted, some not. I'm just not savvy enough to understand why or how to get rid of those addresses............

So you are using the "total access by Earthlink?" Try calling this number 1-800-719-4660, and asking tech support.

I found a picture of the tool bar on Earthlink where they have what is in each button - it still appears that the Earthlink button (first on left) is your best bet. Under Access settings - good luck!

I had Earthlink for years

The only time I tried "Total Access", it used up so much space and slowed the system down so much that I got rid of it and simply put in the connection data into IE and OE so that I could click on either one to get connected. Ran faster.

Sorry, I don't know where to get rid of the history.
However, in IE, when I don't want a url to show in my history, I simply click on Lycos or Google, type the name or url there, click the link it finds, and viola! No history.

Yeah, I just recently figured that one out............... I'm a little slow sometimes........

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll call Earthlink when I have some spare time to sit on 'ignore' and wait to talk to a human. If I'm lucky.

I use to work for Earthlink

Well, If I were you I would get rid of Earthlink as soon as you can. When I worked for them I heard lots of horror stories about them ripping people off, people cancelling and getting billed 7 months after the initial cancelation date, and many many more. As far as the tech support goes, might as well talk to the wall man, because the the "tech calls" go to the phillipines (NO JOKE!) and they can barely speak english not to mention you are going to be on hold for about 2 hours at LEAST, because Earthlink is soo poor with customer relations. Needless to say I quit that job. And yes the "Total Access" software has soo many bugs in it its not even funny. Install it. Dial into their server, but use the internet connection wizard to set up a new connection, putting their number in for the ISP number. Good luck with that. Main reason Earthlink sucks is because they have to use other companies for their users to connect to then, your cable comp, phone comp, and so on and so forth. For all of you who are actually taking the time to read this please , I beg of you, don't use TrueVoice (their dig phone- trying to be like Vonage) their internet DSL,cable, dial up, whatever and don't even think about their cellphone packages. So stick to the companies who care about their customers and lose the shitty earthlink
