Omg how awful.

:p

Fuck phone ring off the hook Sr ....was the one head on into the wall.....2001 Daytona 500

That's just awful! I forgot the race was on today. Was helping hubby fix the truck. (which is still broken, btw) Was gonna watch it. I make a joke about watching it for the wrecks, but I'm not gonna make a joke about that anymore. :(

181 miles an hour into the wall......34 races won at Daytona....what a loss.........

JR his son was in second.......had to deal with it.........

MP and the last few seconds also................

49 years old too...............

I am watching CNN and I STILL cannot believe this.

This is awful on so many levels. Poor Michael W...this negates any joy over his victory...

And how must Jr feel...I mean...they were coming up on the checkered flag and his father was RIGHT BEHIND HIM

Sad day for auto racing...

:p

MP, you were watching and talking about DW up in the both and he keep saying I hope Dale is ok......

I know. I always worry when someone doesn't get out of the car on their own. I always think about how really awful it has to be to be a family member and not see him get up and walk away from it.

I mean...I thought "I hope he's okay" but I thought it with the back of my mind going "of COURSE he's okay"

Damn...just...DAMN

A very sad day in racing...His team wins and loses all in the same race...very sad :(

And his man would not have won if it wasn't for him blocking slerling Martin for catching him and Jr was pushing Mike Walltrip to the win..........

I know, Wiz...

I mean...the end of the race was like something out of a MOVIE...and hell..it all still seems a little surreal.

MW wins with his brother up in the booth crying and cheering...Jr and Dad bringing up the rear as the team brings it home...Sr holding off the hungry wolves...all the way down to the checkered flag...

This was one WRITTEN for drama

Just...hell...they forgot to write a happy ending.

This is SO surreal.

So True my dear and they were hungry too we taped it and just watched it over and man they were trying to get past him bad................I know it sounds silly but I still am speechless..............

Not silly at all, Wizard. I'm still shocked myself.

It's like some bizarre movie. I keep waiting for the "just kidding" to appear on the bottom of the CNN screen.

We are shocked here. My brother is a huge fan of Dale, Sr. Dale Earnhardt, Sr IS NASCAR as far as my family is concerned. This is a tragedy for all of racing, not just NASCAR. He was one of the few who always made racing interesting & was instrumental in making NASCAR as popular as it is. 3 drivers dead in less than a year, hard to believe.

What's hard for me to believe is the wreck Tony Stewart had, and he was ok. Wasn't a piece left to his car and it took out 16 other cars and all was fine. It's a shame it
takes so many deaths for Nascar to realize they need to change the rules.

Agreeded they made some for this race but this just like last year when Adam Petty died they need to take another hard look at it....

I heard during one of the interveiws today they don't even have to wear neck braces.......But if they made it the rule.......

It should have told them something when Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin died at the same track. Now they're saying on
the news if he had retired last year after he was hurt this wouldn't have happened. That's just what his family needs to hear.

I Hear ya and I hear ya...................They have to take a good look at racing right now look what happened with the truck race yesterday and they day befor ....they had them put larger rear spoilers on cause they were running over 190 mile per hour........They wanted to slow them down.....They put restricter plates on that takes a car from over 740 horsepower down to 400 or 450 I don't recall....
You can't say they have done nothing or I woun't say that but they must do better......
I am shocked ans sorry myself for the loss and I really feel for the Family but I have to say they knew the risk when they started....Just like a cop or anyone else ( firefighter) There are risks in the sport...
Don't take that the wrong way I feel more needs to be done and better fences to protect those that watch I have been on the pits and stands at they races and Places like daytona have a good fence but other tracks have ones twice the size ....Daytona is 13 foot.....Lowes motor speedway is 15 ft Indy is 20 ft......There are alot of risks at a track.....

Anyhow I feel for the Family and I wonder if JR will drive his dads car and will the other brother Carey drive jr's car........Carey was signed for the last 7 races this year.......

Such a tragedy. We stopped watching before the end, and had to find out on Netscape.....this is surreal.....and his car didn't look THAT messed up! I've seen worse crashes with twisted mangled car and the driver walks away. Oh....this sucks.

I know where you're coming from wizard and agree. I don't
think carey will ever be the driver his dad or brother is, but I have been wrong before. I hope Jr stays where he's at.
Childers will never be able to replace him that's for sure.
