On the first day of Dykemas
My girlfriend gave to me
A labrys with a sharpened blade.

On the second day of Dykemas
My girlfriend gave to me
Two poems of Sappho
And a labrys with a sharpened blade.

On the third day of Dykemas
My girlfriend gave to me
Three tempeh burgers
Two poems of Sappho
And a labrys with a sharpened blade.

...Four goddess candles...

...FIVE FLAN-NEL SHIRTS!...

...Six aging tabbies...

...Seven baster babies...

...Eight nipple piercings...

...Nine primal drums...

...Ten dental dams...

...Eleven manifestoes...

...Twelve rainbow flags...

I smiled and shook my head, as usual with these things.

However, I'm somewhat confused about the eight nipple piercings (I, for one, seem short on nipples for that); I was also somehow unaware of nipple piercings being associated -- I need to refamiliarise myself with these stereotypes. I do like them though, but I think I prefer a single piercing, leaving one nipple unpierced.

It's a symbol associated with a number of cultures, but most especially the Minoans. Generally, it's thought of as an axe, but some dispute that.

The association (and thus mention in this) is largely due to a lot of theories relating to Minoan religion being female-centered and ideas of matriarchal cultural elements in Pre-Indo-European Europe, as well as associations of battle axes with the Amazons in Greek mythology. The end result being that some lesbians have taken to it and likewise Wiccans sometimes make use of the symbol.
