DVDs seen recently

I know someone who knows the director. :D If you wanted your money back, I could have a word. But I enjoyed it too. Quite refreshing. He also directed a more recent movie called The Descent, which some morons compared, coincidently, to The Cave (even though it came out months before The Cave), but it's so much better it's not even funny.

Well, now I know someone who knows someone who knows the director (kind of).

I liked Dog Soldiers ... thought it was well really well done and it was head and shoulders above some of the big budget monster extravaganzas that have come out of Hollywood recently.

We saw Descent in the theatres a few weeks ago ... enjoyed that as well. I may still have a bruise on my arm from where I was grabbed by my partner during one of the scenes. I think the whole idea of squeezing through all those crevices and being miles underground was scarier to me than the beasties, though. There is no comparision between The Cave and The Descent.

I watched King Kong last night (again0 with the kids. The beginning/set up is boring, but the special effects are worth watching.

It was the characters that made it for me.

G'Kar was my favourite. The way he changed during the series was wonderful. Like Mandela, he went through Hell, came out the other side with his sins burned away rather than his soul completely corrupted.

And when I go, I hope it's with as much dignity and to as good effect as either Marcus or Nerroon. I still get teary at those scenes.

And I've still got the hots for Delenn. Such a perfect balance of wisdom, joy and steel.

OK, shutting up now. :D

Katsulas and Jurasik should have won emmys for their performances, they were the heart and soul of that show.

Just watched Jet Li in Contrack Killer. A lot of kung fu fans don't seem to like this one for various reasons, but for me it was the first Jet Li movie that I actually did like. It's modern day (was getting tired of period movies at the time), it's mostly realistic, Jet does some nifty acting with his eyes, it has a lot of great action in it, and I enjoy it immensely.

Just finished watching Hard Candy. Definitely made my top 5 favorite movies of all time. It's an indie movie (of course, because it's so fucking good!) and just came out on DVD not too long ago; everyone needs to check it out.

I second that: minimalistic, intense, twisted. Great movie.

I watched this best-of-release of my favourite comedian of my childhood/youth yesterday:

And its still incredibly funny.

I agree, great movie.

I also just watched "Thank You For Smoking" and thought that was good too.

I saw "Sister Act" again on DVD recently. It's still my favorite nun film of all time and a great spiritual flick as well as a bona fide performance for Maggie Smith and Whoopi Goldberg.

Just watched Over the Hedge. It was worth renting. Cute and funny.

Cat

Looking forward to seeing Flushed when it comes out.

Oh I loved that movie! I saw it in theaters and couldn't get over it, I was talking about it for weeks. I love how sarcastic it is, makes me giddy!

Kid #3: My Mommy says smoking kills.
Nick Naylor: Oh, is your Mommy a doctor?
Kid #3: No.
Nick Naylor: A scientific researcher of some kind?
Kid #3: No.
Nick Naylor: Well then she's hardly a credible expert, is she?

Watched the movie Click today. It wasn't bad...But wasn't good either, by any means.

I finally watched Cold Mountain tonight. It was a good movie, and Renee Zelwegger was incredible. But I really wish someone had told me that it was such a depressing movie. Someone really awful things happen in that movie, and I kept saying to myself that it would be redeemed with a happy ending. So, when the ending wasn't quite happy, well, I was pretty peeved. :) Those kinds of movies ought to have warning labels for people like me.

Legend of Drunken Master

I have owned it for years, and have seen it a bunch of times, but I still enjoy watching it every time. One of Chan's best movies if you ask me (and I have a bunch on DVD).
