Gosh, I never understood what motivates such fanatism.
I get that, in their mind, there's some sort of religious payoff or just out of 'patriotism' (like in the case of the kamikaze in ww2).
But what motivates them to bypass any survival instinct? Leaving asside the fact that they take it on civilians/bystanders who often have nothing to do with their war, instead of politicians.

Libsam posted some cool comments (I never knew those things, before) about the difference between
- the moderate muslim who interprets the Phrophet's teachings in a peaceful way (greater jihad = spiritual, inner fight against potential outer attempts to detract them from their faith)
- the dangerous branch of islamists, who take the "smaller jihad"'s meaning literally, aka physical violent fights against detractors.

But of course, the other poster (not a GB regular) understood nothing from Libsam's comment, and started jumping up and down and accusing Libsam of all sorts of nasties.

I see similar attitudes and emotionality on the part of a couple of GB radical atheists who keep claiming, in black and white terms, that all religions are evil. If someone else -who's not religious, or even an atheist-tries to outline some of the pros of having a faith: they get called morons or ignorants.
