They have a few:

1. Affirmative action. Racist policy, bottom line.

2. Reparations. Maybe if anyone is actually still alive who was a slave.

3. Mandatory healthcare (ala Hillary). Doctors are the 3rd leading cause of death in the USA, and Hillary wanted all citizens to get mandatory check-ups? Then what? Mandatory drugs or procedures?

4. Taxing corporate 'windfall" profits. A much better idea would be price controls.

I'm sure there's more, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

1. The main beneficiaries of AA have been women. Yep. So if anything it's sexist. But it's not.

2. Tell me about an official Democratic Party platform policy that involves reparations. A bill. Something.

3. Welcome to the late 20th Century. In a First World country.

4. Don't know much about it. What do you want to do with the obscene profits of the oil companies?

I agree with you about 1 and 2.
What about the Republican idea that it is acceptable to fund much of the Federal budget with money borrowed from Communist China? I think that's pretty stupid.

1. Giving preferential treatment to anyone based on anything but their acedemic skills is wrong.

2. I never said "official party platform". I said ideas.

3. The same applies to all modern "1st world" industrialized nations. I have no problem with nationized or "socialized" medicine as competition to overpriced private medicine, just to "mandatory medicine".

4. What should we do with the obscene profits the pharmaceutical companies make? People need medicine even more than they need fuel. Or obscene profits made by Halliburton? Or by denfense contractors?

Horrible idea. If China decided to call in their loans and sell off their US Treasury securities tomorrow, the entire world economy would plunge.

As for numero uno, I'll leave it up to you to let all the college football players know their education will no longer be funded. Nor will university dollars fund their practice and game necessities. I'd tell them, but those guys are huge.

Regarding the others, if you're simply picking ideas proposed by individuals to be representative of the views of democrats as a whole, your logic is faulty. If not, your point is without legs. I've got a friend who's a democrat who'd like everyone to ride a horse instead of drive, but that doesn't make it a top political priority for the group. Although perhaps it should be!

1. All things being equal, what about ability to pay? Or do the rich just simply get better education and preferential treatment when their kid goes to Brown and yours goes to Trash Dump U.?

2. Idea? That's nebulous. Give me a Bill or something. Otherwise this "idea" is something you personally have identified as Democratic not anything actual or factual.

3. Cool.

4. Take away the tax breaks and dodges we're already giving them? No bid contracts? Y'know that kind of thing.

Even sports scholarships have more strict rules regarding grades , nowdays.

The other ideas are basically democratic in nature. Example:

"US House apologizes for slavery, reviving reparations call"

Have there been actual studies done that prove going to prestigious schools actually results in "better education"? Does paying more for knowledge actually give one more or better knowledge?

Yes, and also take away tax breaks and such to all profitable corporations.

Just like Republicans always say "welfare should only be to help people out of poverty, not a lifetime handout".

If the US has difficulty paying China back expect a visit from "Uncle" Zhāng & cronies. They play rough.

Afterwards US citizens will end up sporting inexpensive knee-replacement implants made in China.

And those will probably be defective and found to contain toxic chemicals.

:p

The Chinese can only lend money to federal government by buying U.S. Treasury bonds, which can't be cashed in before maturity. So it doesn't really give them any power over us. I mean, they can't use them to enact a takeover like corporate junk bonds in the '80s.

And it's a lot of money. If I owe you a thousand dollars, I have a problem. If I owe you a million dollars, you have a problem.

Good point, except you can cash in securities before they mature, but they won't be worth anything more than face value.

Look, I'm a democratic socialist and everything, but not even the most social-democratic states of Western Europe try to directly control prices. It just creates a black market. There are some things for which the market works best. Its excesses can be corrected by taxing and regulating around the edges.

Yet they already have indirect price controls on all sorts of things.

But never to keep the price from getting too high, only to keep prices from getting too low.

Interesting.

I was responding for your assertion that collegiate requirements should extend no further than pure academics. Admissions and financial aid can be viewed from various angles, and from each, there's a group being benefitted while another is held back.

I just don't think the issue is as cut and dry as you're trying to claim.

Oh, I agree. I think any college scholarships and such should be based purely on an academic basis.

Being able to run really fast or catch a ball shouldn't qualify anyone, IMO.

I think that issue transcends political affiliations. Both Dems and Reps seem to support such subsidies.
