GW made a 'seminal decision' when talking about the reasons not to send troops to Darfur despite the genocide taking place there. BBC interview http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7245002.stm

Well... I suppose he's not alone. We all sit back and watch the women get raped and the children die; I just wish, that for once he'd used a better expression :(

I'm not an admirer of the man, but I think he was going to get hit on this no matter what he did. Act alone and he's a unilateral imperialist; wait for the U.N. and nothing happens. It's just damned difficult to get a group of heads of state to agree that the U.N. should start intervening early and significantly in the affairs of member states. None of them want their own sovereignty challenged.

Well, the UN's already in trouble thanks to Iraq.

Too many more infractions of international law and everybody's going to say 'Fuck it' and go back to the way things were before WWI, intricate series of alliances meant to balance the power out.

With the same weakness. The right nudge, all the alliances get triggered and WWIII starts. A war where every side has WMD. And they'll probably feel justified in using them.

Won't that be fun? :(

China seems to be the problem. I understand they can afford to buy most countries in the forthcoming auction. I suppose it always helps to the patron of a nation a million miles from your border, you can pretend not to see, and kick merry hell out of anyone who dains to interfere. It's a fucked up world, it's even more fucked if you happen to be a woman, black, and devoid of economic power.

Any one read Ayaan Hirsi Ali's book, Infidel?

Send who, paid for with what? One of the oft-neglected problems of committing to something like Iraq (and Afghanistan at the same time, mind you), is that not only does it restrict what you can do elsewhere but also all those who want to come out a play without your interference know you've restricted yourself to this extent.

Shrub only calls is a "Seminal Decision" because he knows he's fucked in the ass anyway. Who would he send? The boy scouts? And how's he going to pay for it?
