Drunk Illusions: Writing help?

And no, you can't buy the wormwood stuff easily here (though a number of bars sell it anyway).

It really is an insane drink, unless you do it in moderation: The cliche images of Dionysian abandon apply perfectly to Absinth.
Having done the research, I'm intregued. I'm sure I'd like the flavor, but I suspect I wouldn't be able to drink much without it knocking me flat.

That said, I'm still in a delemma here. From the research, it sounds like Absinth won't do the job for me either, so I might as well stick with Tequila (or whatever).

Maybe I'll just write it up--have the guy make his mistakes, and then when corrected, say, "OH, yeah. You're right."

He doesn't, for story purposes, have to *keep* remembering it wrongly; and as I said, people do have faulty memories when they're sobers, so why not when drunk?

I'm thinking you might try mescal, 3113. I believe that contains quantities of mescaline

It's been years but I got more of a drug buzz from it than an alcohol buzz.

That may be because I drank the worm.

Okay, I'm having trouble finding info on the drug-buzz of mescal. Plenty on Peyote, but that's not quite the same.

From what I can read here on wikipedia, mescaline is the active ingredient in peyote.

There are, as I recall, very small amounts of mescaline in mescal. I'd also heard the worm contains a bit more as well.

The buzz I got from mescal was a sense of dislocation, like I was watching from a distance a bit greater away than the actual distance between me and what ever I was interacting with. It was odd, but it didn't bother me.

Research about the worm. If it does contain a little mescaline, maybe the guy can insist on eating several, to prove how tough he is or something. Combined with the mescaline in the mescal itself, that might get the effects you want.

I'd volunteer to find out myself, but I'm a little old for that. ;)
