Drugs

I've had characters using pot and or drinking in some of my stories set back in the sixties and early seventies. Most people that complained were talking more about drinking and driving than the pot use. Most were young people that didn't have any ideas about the differences in now and then.

People fuck themselves up on substances legal and otherwise. That's life. Such substances include stimulants like speed and sugar, depressants like alcohol and cannabis, hypnotics, psychedelics, all sorts of shit. That's reality. People slug multiple drug cocktails to enhance their sexual and other experiences. That's raw material for our writing. Esoterica is chemical.

Sorry was out of line with the one star rate comment. Would I really do it, not for just having drug use in a story. The only time would be...nope not going there lest everyone decide to draw and quarter me.

So advancing that obviously taboo subject, why are there 5 stars if we are not allowed to use them. Perhaps 2 stars would be more than enough, after all only a few ever bother to rate stories anyway, and there are complaints about 1 star bombers invading the stories.

So would 2 stars be enough?
1 star = like it.
2 star = love it.

Hot would be the average being above 1.5

If you did not like the story or are a grammar queen, then ignore the rating system.

You might still get bombers, but at worst your score is "Like it"

It's the triviality that comment implied that lifts people's hackles. It's the sort of thing that's absolutely rampant in Loving Wives, and has made the category a chipper-shredder that chews up unsuspecting authors and spits them out as giblets. It's the sort of thing that forces any story with the slightest hint of M-M contact either into the GM category, or leaving it no home whatsoever.

The screening process is fast and dirty. Things get through that are so poorly constructed and full of grammar errors that they might very well deserve a 1 or 2.

If someone throws a violent non-con scene in the middle of a romance category story, I can see where smacking it with a low score is reasonable.

Really, in most cases where a 1 would be appropriate, it's more appropriate to report the story as improperly categorized, so poor that it should be taken down until the errors are cleaned up, etc.
