Before they lose everything.
I have never used drugs and I don't even drink, but I know people who are/were on drugs or alcohol abusers, and thankfully, a few of them got cleaned up. I have seen others lose their jobs.
One guy got married to this girl after 6 months, she was a coke head. Got him using the stuff. He becomes a coke head. So, he decides to kick his 11 y/o daughter out. Afer a few months he started calling off work or simply not showing up. Started getting skinny, and grew a beard like Tom Hanks from Cast Away. Well, they called him in after awhile and asked him straight out, "Do you have a problem"? Now, if he would have said right then and there that he wanted to check himself in, he would still have his job and they would have helped him get clean. But, instead, he says, "No, Ijust dabble with drugs and cocain". Wrong answer. Needles to say, he was fired. The thing is, he was one of those guys that had an easy , good paying job. And, he use to somewhat brag about it and how good he had it. He recently had to sell his house and car.
Another friend had a serious drinking problem We would hang out a few years back and he would get so drunk that he would forget to show up for work. To his credit, he rarely came to work drunk, just with a serious hangover. We would hangout maybe 3 times a week. Had th emost fun of my life back then, even though I myself donot drink. I would make sure everyone got home ok, and try to keep them out of trouble at the bars/clubs. I would also let everybody know when it was time to leave. Well, he got worse and worse and one day, he decided he better get help, so he went to work one day and told them that he had a drinking problem. So, they helped him out, sent him to AA. A few months later, he came back, sober, and was doing really well. But then he met a girl that seemed cool, though just alittle bit racist, so I didn't care awhole lot for her. Well, they go out one night, on a Friday, they start drinking, even though she knew he was just in AA not too long ago. Well, he says he was drinking and doing drungs the whole weekend, and was having 3somes with her and her friend, and come Monday, he forgets to come in for work. Everyone is looking for him. He ends up calling, crying, saying he messed up again, and wanted to get help. Well, we all chipped in and tried to help best we could. But, at this time, I stopped hanging out with him like I use too. So, we would talk, I would hangout with him now and then, just not at bars or places with alcohol. But eventually, he lost his job for missing days. They tried everything they could to help him, but in the end, he fucked up. Now, he is doing better, but we don't really hangout liek we used to. But, he doesn't have a job, spent up all his money, and is now having health problems from all the drinking and other drugs he was using from time to time.
Anyways, I knowa few people who are on something. Mostly alcohol, especially in the line of work I do. Guys go out drinking after work till about 8 or 9 even on a weekday. And they always ask me, "Why don't you drink? Did someone you know get hurt/killed from alcohol? What's your story?" I always say the same thing. I don't really need to. I am happy just the way I am. Then alot of times they want you to try a drink anyway. "Try this, it only has alittle alcohol in it. It tastes like juice". No thanks. I'll stick with the juice.
Now, don't get me wrong. I don't mind people who drink, don't get me wrong. I don't mind dating a girl who likes to relax with a beer or glass of wine now and then. But, if she's a heavy drinker, she's not really my type.
But, I did date this one girl who drank like, once every couple of weeks, but when she did she would always get horny, so that was one plus. LOL
So anyway, My advice. If you have a friend on drugs or is abusing alcohol, talk to them. If your not that close, try to get someone else to talk to them. But, someone needs to try to help them out. And, if they are really out of control, stop hanging out with them and going out to places where you, as an innocent bystander, might get caught up at the wrong place at the wrong time. Or even worse, they might say, "Hey, Try this". And, you just might figure, WTH, I'll try it. I have seen it happen quite a few times.
It's like I tell everybody, even the mightest of Kings must fall someday. And, that goes for me too.
