So, freak storms happen and sometimes things just "snowball" out of control in ways nobody can predict or prevent.

Is this how you see events like this?
Or is this a symptom of a Country with failing infrastructure and infrastructure support?

After all people being able to get around and do what they do and work is the lifeblood of the Country.

Major accident backed up a highway for a while.

That's not a sign of national anything.

If ANYTHING it looks "bad" for Virginia because a giant shit storm of a mess took several hours to clean up??

Cleaning up auto accidents isn't generally a federal issues, states are a thing, when you and the other comrades figure that out and tone the instant gratification entitlement down a notch, your lives will get a lot easier.

It happens every year. It's nothing for you to soil your diapers about.

In my youth, I went on a week-long training course with a skid pan. I drove motorcycles, cars, heavy articulated trucks and buses. Doing doughnuts with a double-decker bus was fun. When it is icy I sometimes go to an empty car park to practise.

But, even though I know how to drive on snow and ice, I try not to. I know I'm competent but most of the people around me aren't and drive too fast.

About thirty years ago I drove a neighbour twenty miles down small rural roads covered in snow because she was having contractions and the ambulances couldn't get to her. We arrived safely and two days later I collected her and her new-born. But there was very little traffic on the roads each time.

Hmmm, so a major artery of transportation shut down can't be rectified in a reasonable amount of time? That is what most of you seem to be saying? Remember, this is snow we are talking about...not a massive fire with vehicles.

I can except a few hours, maybe even 6 hours. Why isn't there more access to these type of roads for emergencies? Say, every mile? That people could use to get off and get emergency vehicles in?

Did the folks who constructed them not consider this at all?

Again, in this country, when the shit goes down in any serious.way it looks more and more like the individual is just plain out of luck when it comes to State or Federal aid. Please tell me how I'm wrong?

One of our local small motorways has a 14 mile stretch with no way of getting on or off. If an accident occurs, particularly a fatal one, drivers are stuck for hours until the authorities can shut off access and allow drivers to turn around and go back. There is a continuous barrier across the central reservation.

The only access for emergency services is down the hard shoulder but some inconsiderate drivers block that.

The alternative is a two-way road (an old Roman Road) that passes through every town and village on the way and gets congested very quickly if the motorway is shut.

Some folks were stuck 20 plus hours including one US Senator who was putting out info about folks needing food, water, bathrooms, medicine, etc.

Wtf?

Shit happens and you'll accept however many hours it takes to clean up.

It's looking more and more like the individual is plain out of luck because more and more individuals are less and less responsible for their crap.

Wtf?

It's called an emergency kit, every car should have one.

And the responsibility for that is on the individual.

Your a reject dude....find another hobby.

You're* .....learn English son.

You tried making a mountain out of a molehill and got bitch slapped for it.

Take the L and walk away, there is no coming back for you in this thread. :D

That's some ugly winter weather. It hasn't gotten that bad down here at Stately Downsouth Manor.

I've lived in that area. Occasional bogdowns like that (fifteen hours certainly is long, but it was a freak storm) have happened over the years. That section of I-95 is perpetually bogged down anyway. This doesn't happen there enough to justify Colorado-style snow removal capability.

Yep, seems like theyโ€™ve needed infrastructure improvements for a while.

Perhaps better driver education might help? The number of people who drive too fast in poor conditions is frightening.

When you are a True Believer (Hoffer), then, of course, everything is proof.

(It's drivers, not a driver's trap or drivers' trappings...)

:p

The storm was forecast days in advance. If you are caught out in it, it's your own damn fault.

The highway admin could plan to add a set of exits. Just the planning may be as far as they get before traffic decreases with rising fuel prices and population reduction.
