I'm trying to write a thread at the moment and I need to know what the drinking age in America is. I think it's 21 but I'm not 100% certain. Also what is the age that you have to be to get into nightclubs? Would it be 21 also?

Kind of wrecks what I've written if I'm wrong but you get that.

Thanks to anyone who can give me an answer.

Pretty much 21 these days, due to the federal government holding back highway money from the states that don't make it 21. (Drinking age is a state law, since it isn't an area of law allotted to the federal government under the U.S. Constitution)

Nightclubs may choose to (or to have specific shows that) allow only 21+ in.

Other clubs allow "all ages" but are strict to various degrees about checking identification. One "all ages" club I went to had a separate bar area only open to the 21+ people.

Lately clubs for the younger set have been pat-searching customers for knives and whatnot, and mostly allowing you to check them at the door.

Sadly, this is true of some amusement parks as well...though this may have been more due to an increase in vandalism.

Hit us with more background questions, it's fun!

What's the drinking age in Australia?

Thanks a lot Zingiber. That helps a whole lot.

I got frisked for the first time a couple of weeks ago when I was going into a club called The Church in Perth's nightclub area Northbridge. Someone had been stabbed and killed there the week before. The place is almost 100% asian customers. Still, i thought it was fun being patted down.

The drinking age in Australia is 18 but we can only get our drivers license at 17.

Don't think I'll get the thread finished today as I have to go for a passport interview soon.

Thanks again

Dacia.

passport interview?

So you really are 'coming to a country near us'? Fill us in. Thought you might enjoy the patdown. Now if only you could find a place that requires a stripsearch ;)

Yes, I'm planning a little overseas adventure in a couple of months. I'm going somewhere in the Commanwealth.............

I thought the front door to your house required a stripsearch Kendahl.

Hmmmm well here you can get your driving license between 16 and 17...there are some clubs that work with people 17 and under, a lot are for 18 and older...I know that there are some clubs that will give you a wristband according to your age whether you are legal or not to drink. Hope this helps!

That helps a heap JagFarlane. I knew there was something to do with wristbands but wasnt sure what. For the sake of my thread and what I want it to achieve the club will have to be one of the 21 plus joints. I'll drop a bit of a link for the thread when its approved.

Thanks all.

Hey you're quite welcome...I'm not much of a clubber myself...but I know a bit...

better than a 'welcome' mat
