Dreamweaver MX? HELP!

Nick says you have a bunch of problems going on. He'll get back to you in a little bit.

Alright, thanks!

Yeah, I suppose I do have more than one problem. I guess I was just thinking that the saving part was the most important, since, well... yeah. Why know the other stuff if you can't save? That's my thinking, anway.

Okaaaay.

I decided to just give up on the whole frame thing. I've reconstructured the site so that I CAN save my index page. Everything is fine now. EXCEPT one thing. I know. This seems never-ending.

So, here's the one thing:

I'm still having problems getting the page to come up. Instead, a index list still pops up, with a link to the index page ( when I click on it, only the words come up, none of the images or background colors), and then another link to the parental directory.

Other than all that, everything is fine and dandy.

But...that's a pretty big "that".

I have been reading this thread of a day or two, are you using the Synchronize site in DW, if not post back and I'll give you a blow by blow on how to do this step, also I'll give you an email and have you send your HTML if you want me to look at it. Now take a deep breath, once you get through all this one time you'll be supprised just how easy it is.

mm201,

Umm... I'm not sure if I am or not? I don't quite know what the Synchronize site of DW is, I guess. I know I have my site connected to DW, but I'm not sure how to upload my page to my site. I know it should do it automatically, but it's not. And I know my information on the remote page is right because I've tested it and it works. I know Erika mentioned something about pressing "put" very early on in this thread, but that option doesn't seem currently available to me. If I click on "Site" at the top of the program, there's a long list of commands that scroll down, including "put". However, almost all of this list is gray, which, as I'm sure you know, means that it's not clickable.

OK, the hardest part of this will be the fact that I can't show you the visuals, I'm using DW version 6, so if you're using a newer version hopefully things will look about the same.

1. make sure that the panel on the right side of the screen is open, this is the one that says design, code, application, files, etc.
2. click on the one that says "files" it should open up where the arrow next to it is pointing down.
3. there are 2 tabs, click the one that says "site"
4. there are 4 submenus here, file - edit - view - site
5. open the "site" submenu, at the top of that menu click "connect" this will connect you to the remote server.
6. just down below are 2 list boxes, open the one on the right and select "Local view", this will give you the directory structure on your computer.
7. highlight the files that you want to upload, if there are more than one hold down you Control key while you are clicking them.
8. open the "site" menu again, go down to where it says "synchronize" and click that
9. a dialog box will come up that says Synchronize files click Preview
10. a dialog box should come up that lists all the files that you have highlighted, click OK
11. you will get a couple of pop-up that have progress bars on them showing the file load in progress
12. when this is done you should get a dialog box that asks you if you want to save a log of your changes, so you have your choice here
I hope that this is all complete, since I had to do the last part from memory, when I went to my web host I couldn't get logged in for some reason. I hope that this helps, if you have any more problems or can't get this to work post back and we'll see if we can get it figured out, and I still recommend getting a Visual Quick Start manual for DW, you might be able to get one from Amazon for $20 or so, they're pretty well written and fairly easy to understand

I just thought of one more thing because I think I had the problem with the list coming up before...
On my sites, you have to specify that you want the files to be loaded to the /public_html/ folder. I'm not sure what your host requires, but you might be uploading to the wrong folder (go to Site>edit site>select Edit after highlighting your site>click the Advanced tab>see what it says by Host Directory). You may have to check with Blue on this one...I'm not sure if /public_html/ is standard.

I'm not a fan of WYSIWYG Web editors.

I stick to vi, ftp, and telnet/ssh to author my pages.

I now have my page uploaded!

Sort of...

The index finally comes up, but none of the images on that index are. They have the little x thingy in the middle of where the pic is supposed to be.

I called the techies at my host again and they said that they're not allowed to help me with HTML stuff, but that it probably has to do with referencing my images wrong. I have no idea what that means. I have all of my images under the public_html/ thing (yes, Erika, I think that probably is universal) along with the index page itself. Yet still, they're not coming up. When I had my original index up (pre-edit) the images were coming up. Then, I reconstructed my index page-- got rid of some of the old images, replaced with new-- resaved the index, and now no images are showing.

YAY!!

Okay. A gentle (cough) update.

Everything is working!! And I mean everything! Pictures are showing up, things are uploading on their own, and everything is getting saved!

Thanks everyone so much for your time, consideration, and help!

It's finally time for this thread to close. (For now!)

Yeah Sati, we want to see the fruits of your labor! Or at least PM it to those of us who responded multiple times to this thread! :D Glad it worked out for you...it should be downhill from here.
