"Dream the impossible dream?"

A couple of days ago an American friend (and long long time GOP member) made what seemed like an unlikely proposition. He suggested that:-

If there is a recession and Trump's popularity tanks, he will not run at all, just claim 'mission accomplished' and walk away, probably leaving the decision until the last minute. Is that even thinkable?

Who would replace him for the GOP?

Any thoughts?

Interesting theory and with trump anything is possible.
I think he will fight to the end and if he looses I think he will refuse to relinquish power claiming election fraud on a huge scale, or some such.
He will be desperate to win because he knows the moment he is no longer King of the Jews he is being charged with all of those obstruction offences that mueller uncovered.
