Dream Interpretation

Makes me recall the old joke about a gay man that went into the butcher shop and asked for a bologna. When asked how he wanted it sliced, the man replied: "Does my ass look like a piggy bank?"

Oh my god. That's freaking funny.

I have my own theory of dreams, based on what Helen Keller reported, and infant development.

Keller said her early dreams were limited to what she could experience....heat, cold, pain, pleasure, fear, hunger, thirst, taste, smell, comfort, discomfort. She had no language and could not think. After Annie Sullivan came along Keller acquired language and thought and imagination. Sullivan understood that language is tied to concretes NOT abstractions. And Keller experienced stories thru concrete objects. She learned as an infant learns. Infants dream what Keller dreamed.

Milton H. Erickson MD said much the same when he recalled how he learned to walk after polio paralysis. He watched his infant sister struggle with learning ambulation, and did what she did. He speculated that polio destroys what muscles 'know.' Practice makes perfect?

Makes me wonder if dreams aren't a crude analog of intelligence.
