IC:
Raven of the White Sword was done with his training. It had taken him ten long years to become an absolute master of combat, as far as humans go. But something was missing. He wasn't sure what yet, but he figured he'd find out when the time came. His best friend watched him silently for several long moments, then spoke.
“What’s the matter, Raven? You look depressed.”
“Tell me something, Brittania. Have you ever had one overwhelming desire? One thing you wanted more than anything else, with all your heart and soul, everything you had?”
“Yes. You.”
“Would you please be serious?
“Sorry. Go on.”
“All my life, I’ve wanted one thing…to see a real dragon. Just once, I’d like to see a living, breathing dragon; to look it in the eyes and see into its heart, like I do humans and other animals; to learn about ancient civilizations, ancient heroes, villains, and great deeds; to talk about mistakes of our people. It’s what I’ve wanted as long as I can remember….”
“Hold your dreams and wishes in your heart. Maybe, one day, they’ll come true. Good night, my friend.”
She leaves him to his thoughts. He walks out onto the balcony, overlooking a lake, far out of reach of the lights of Tyris Lei. He looks towards the full moon and makes a wish.
“I wish,” he says, “I wish to meet a dragon.” The last is whispered.
[Well, then, you had better get moving, boy. After all, life is short.]
“What? Who’s out there? Who said that?”
[Oh, come now. Don’t tell me you can’t sense who and what I am. You, of all people, part human, part Elven, part Guardian.]
“What are you talking about? Who are you?”
[Come to me, Boy. All will be revealed. Come to me.]
“How? Where? When? Why?”
[Well, that covers all of the interrogatives, doesn’t it? Follow your Heart, now, with all possible speed, because it is what you wished for.]
“Wait…..gone. Well, I’d better set out. First, my armor.” He dons a beautiful, ornate set of Ranger’s armor.
“Then my armaments.” He says, pulling out a wicked looking greatsword, followed by a large hammer.
“Time to go.”
He goes to the balcony, jumping over. His feet hit stone, and he takes off at a dead run, letting his heart guide him, stretching out his powerful senses. He closes his eyes, and when he opens them again, he finds himself in a clearing shrouded in mist. He sees a pair of glittering, sapphire eyes, shining out of the fog. The body of a green and gold dragon materializes out of nowhere.
[Ah, you have arrived. You have much to learn, my young friend.]
“Why?”
[Because it is what you wished for. And because you are the Child. You asked to learn, and you shall. Come, Boy. You have much to see. The past is a long time. Yes, that is what you need, a trip into the past. Let us go. Up, onto my back. Hurry….there you are.]
“Are you going to show me everything?”
[No…not right away, anyways. You’ll see important events, people, and places in human history. Later we will see a lot more. Now tell me, what is your name, my young friend.]
“Raven….but shouldn’t you tell me your name before asking mine?”
[You can call me Oltrian.]
