I'm closing in on Act III in the JRPG Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, and was wondering if anyone would be interested in an SRP themed around that? We could play existing characters or OCs and tweak it a little to say that instead of the Hero being the solitary reincarnation of Erdwin, we are all Echoes of the Luminary, and we each carry a shard of his soul within us in the same way Veronica and Serena were both jointly the reincarnation of Serenica.

The event that brings us together for the first time could be the Masked Martial Arts Tournament in Octagonia. Regardless of where we are in the world and where we hail from, we are all drawn to Octagonia by a mysterious dream that we each interpret as Yggdrasil's Calling. Feel free to custom tune your character's exact dream, so long as it includes a mother-like figure urging them their destiny will lead to the Tournament.

Throughout the competition, the Grand Prize is concealed within a special chest, and once it is opened, it is revealed to be a rare branch of Yggdrasil Herself, a Rainbough. Once we make eye contact with it, the branch starts to glow, and we each feel a connection to it and each other. However, this also draws the attention of a nearby dragon, who swoops down into the arena, causing mass panic. It is here that our Luminary powers surface for the first time, allowing us to slay the beast, but also sending ripples through the Aether and alerting the slumbering Lord of Shadows, Mordegon.

Some think us the bringers of doom and that the arrival of darkness is a direct result of us, the Echoes of the Luminary. But we prefer to believe that Yggdrasil could sense Mordegon growing stronger as he slumbered and elected to mount a preemptive strike by birthing us into the world. From here we can embark on a variety of adventures and pave out a number of paths, including trips to other worlds, the afterlife, and time travel.

For my main character, I was thinking about a young battlemage from Puerto Valor named Eduardo Galadoza, son of Admiral Hector Galadoza, the commanding officer of the Costa Valoran Navy and a member of Don Rodrigo's Privy Council. In Costa Valoran politics, Don is a hereditary title passed on from father to son within House Azar, encompassing rule of the city of Puerto Valor and the greater Costa Valor domain surrounding it.

The Don of Costa Valor is equivalent to a monarch in other countries, and the position holds equal standing at the annual Colloquy of Kings in Dundrasil. Obviously, since this is a literary roleplay and not a single player video game, the scale of the world will be greatly expanded upon to be more realistic, with all locations from the game scaling to adequate levels to house larger populations. For instance, Heliodor City in the game seems to be only capable of housing a mere dozen characters or so, versus in this RP world it's more on the scale of King's Landing in Game of Thrones, with a population of several hundred thousand. There will also be many other locations scattered throughout the world for us to encounter.

For your characters, you are also more than welcome to concoct your own kingdoms and cities to hail from.
