(Looking for writers to join this fantasy. Sign up either as a rider or dragon. Best is that someone sign up as a rider and then someone as that riders dragon. To not get uneven numbers.)

It had been over 100 years ago the Kingdom of Aelis had to depend upon their legendary dragon riders for defence. In the time of peace the dragon kin was not reproducing in such a swift pace as back in the old days. No one knew why the dragons was not breeding offspring as much anymore. If it was the abscence of a strong enemy or another reason.

Back in the old days there was plenty of dragons roaming the skies with their riders on back. Back then the dark Lord of Skyre had his army attacking Aelis across the great Ocean of Despair. Lord Maracas, Great Lord of Skyre led the attack himself. On his way toward Herth, the capital city of Aelis. He had to face the dragon riders of Windermere. The isolated island of Windermere was the first line of defence and the riders that was led by Orin Backer. The most legendary rider of all time. The battle of the skies was long, hard and bloody. No side gave an inch. The sky was filled with dragons and wyverns battling it out as well as their riders.

The battle of the skies reached the peak when Orin Backer on top of his red dragon Tiano met Lord Maracas on his black dragon Deathclaw. The fight of the two champions was the stuff of legends. It ended with Deathclaw crashing to the death in the waves of Despair, taking Maracas with him to the grave of the deep.

That was over a hundred years ago. Since then Aelis have prospered in peace with the few dragons left and their riders as guardians. Only a few dragons a year is born and trained to be the steed of the next generation of dragon riders.

A dragon rider is discovered early by the seers of Aelis. As an infant they are taken from their birth family to the Academy of the ways of war that lies just outside Herth. Strangely enough the eggs of dragons don't hatch until a boy or girl who's destiny is to become a rider is born. There are only so many dragons as riders at one time.

Dragons age as fast or slow as their riders. They receive training without the riders until they are brought together at the age of 12 for bonding and comradeship. When they can carry their rider on their back, usually at the age of 15 they start to train flying technicues and fight technicues. Despite the myths about dragons they can't breath fire. The rider and dragon communicate telepathically.

Dragons are either red or green in color. The older they got the darker the color get. At the age of 18 when both dragon and rider are ready to serve the Kingdom as guardians the color of the dragon start to get a little darker.

Quite happy to sign on as a Dragon should someone need one.

Or a rider if a dragon is going spare.

Interesting thread idea!

Glad you like it. Found it quite interresting myself. Had some books and movies as inspiration. The world is original though :)

So Tigerjaw.Do these dragons talk as normal like in dragonheart films or at least somesort of language between them and their riders?

They do not have tongues and vocal cords to speak as humans but they talk telepathically with their riders as a result of the bond between them.

getting more intriguing by the second.....never read much of the fantasy books but enjoy some of the films. want to join but not sure if i could do it justice babe.

Heheh... would love to be a dragon.

Just to be sure. The dragons can not morph into human form.

Also, just how big are they? Are we talking moderate, or are we talking huge and menacing?

The dragons can't morph :)

They are moderate in size. The size of them is reflected of how big the rider is. Also a thing that is the result of the bond between dragon and rider. They are quite dangerous though. Sharp teeths and claws.

So, if the rider is a thin woman the dragon will have to be slender? No chance of it being huge?

Also, why only red and green dragons? I mean, sure, one wouldn't ask for fluorescent ones, so...?

Yes if the rider is a thin woman the dragon will slender. There are 2 kind of dragons. The red and green one is of the same race. The second kind is the black dragon. Both races is hightly intelligent but as the red and green ones are loyal and trustworthy the black are evil and ferocious. The good dragons are rarely breeding but the black ones are even rarer. There have been only one sighting of a black dragon in history. The one ridden by Maracas.

Hmmmm...

I don't like the setting. It's a problem of freedom of creation. You basically are putting us into a fantasy world that is pretty restricted. Not only that, it is also restricted to the point that the dragon player depends completely on the rider to create his dragon.

It is difficult enough coming up with an interesting character, but when you have to adapt yourself to very limited ideas that, to add salt to the wound, are dependent on another player... well... that's just not gonna work out for me.

Also, you are kind of fighting the dragon paradigm here. Dragons are supposed to be ancient, wise creatures of great power (even if they don't breathe fire). But here you want us to accomodate to a "The Last Dragon" kind of paradigm. And that movie sucked a lot.

Basically, if you want to attract people to play dragons, you need to let them play with the usual idea of dragon, or something similar. Not with watered-down versions that are more like Wyverns than Dragons.

It's your thread, of course, so it's not my place to tell you how to do things. This is an explanation as to why I'm not taking part in this RP (besides time and energy consumption, which is an extraordinary case going on with me).

I hope this really gets up in the air (no pun intended).

I'm familiar with the book series that I think forms some of the foundation for the dragon/rider relationships. I'll create my own dragon in concert with my rider, but it's to be expected that my rider and I would cooperate in working out some attributes that are shared.

Dragons are telepathically linked to their rider and can communicate with all the ease of speaking to them. They are also able to communicate with other dragons in the same way. Dragons are not half-crippled halfcreatures that need a human to live, it is merely that they appreciate the close bond between themselves and a rider and prefer that state to feral life.

Dragons are not ancient, per se, but every dragon can communicate with every other dragon over long distances. Thus they have access to more information than an average person. They are also fully sentient and emotionally complex creatures. Dragons fall in love. Dragons hate. Dragons feel pretty much what we would feel.

A writing pair that sign up as Dragon/Rider are going to have to be comfortable writing together - but they don't have to be linked at the hip. A dragon will generally stay close to his rider, but given their ability to fly and stay in contact telepathically, their concept of close is wider than our own.

I think it would be an interesting writing challenge to master not only writing as a sentient non-human, but writing the bond between dragon and rider. That's what's got me interested in this thread.

I am basing the dragons on a swedish fantasy novel. Can't remember the name but in that book. They exist in a symbiosis after the dragons sort of adopted mankind as their protectors. There arent as many dragons left in the world after the big war. many died with their riders. After the war the birthrate of riders and dragons diminished. The reason unknown but some think it is because the lack of a threat can be a reason. I can change it so that the dragons can be in more colors than red and green. Except black because that is reserved to the bad guys.

I look forward to input as if this thread start i will not be the only writer.

true, the dragon don't die even if the rider do. However in the book one dragon dies as he takes the revenge on the one that slayed his rider.

bump... Really wan't this to work. Can write your profiles here or any questions you have.

Still here and still interested - just need a rider. ;)

Let's hope bumping it a few times will attract some writers.

Bump... :) Glad you are still interrested. Need a rider for Steiner and a dragon for me to start. Then some more riders and dragons to spice it up.

this sounds cool im in I could be a rider for Steiner or be ur dragon or both :)

I'd love to play here - dragon or rider. Hope you're peeking in here, Tigerjaw. It's a fun premise.

Ok, fine, I think I'll bite. Damn these long holidays with way too much spare time for nerds...

I'm thinking of a female rider. By the way, I was wondering, can someone play a character other than a dragon or a rider?

I imagine that dragons, with their size, might sometimes allow for two riders? If not, someone has to command the ground troops. Not that I am ditching the chance of playing a rider, but there are alternatives should we end up with an uneven number (which apparently happened when I posted... X) ).

You didn't like the premise, you didn't like the intent, you didn't even like the way Tigerjaw wanted to depict the dragons. I can't help wondering why you suddenly want to play in this thread if it should be started.

Well, back when I posted, I unconsciously felt forced to play a... "gimped" ( ? ) dragon. Unconsciously, that is, I simply didn't think that there were other roles that could be filled.

But if my presence is bothersome, I'll leave.

Back after a long absence. :)

Did we get anywhere with this? If the thread is still under consideration then I'm still supportive. Mayu offered to be rider to my dragon, I believe. If Maid snags Tiger and we resolve Katamari's question about multiple crew for one dragon, then we're in good shape to get started?

After some time to reconsider, I think I might drop out after all. I am not too confident about how many RPs I can manage as of late. I have found a few that interest me more, and I haven't created a character yet, so I think this is the best moment to leave.

I'm leaving the floor to you guys, so have a nice time! :)
