I am so excited and nervous at the same time. I am doing my first drag king show next month. I am trying to decide the songs now. I believe I could pull off Toby Keith, Garth Brooks and Meatloaf for a harder number. Any suggestions on what to do or not to do in the way of song choice, mannerisms, costumes would be appreciated.

As an FTM who endeavoured very vehemently to pass as male pre-hormones and pre-surgery, I can give you some pointers that I found were useful, if you want them. What in specific do you anticipate will give you the most trouble?

I am looking for the most realistic performance. What about facial hair? What to use, not to use. The best binding techinques, packing. Basically the crash course.

Well, the best binders you can get are from http://www.underworks.com in my opinion. Before I had top surgery, I used a Double Front Compression Vest to bind down my chest. It worked quite well for the C's I had, and created a nice smooth profile. If you don't want to go with that option... Do you know those neoprene waist-cinchers you can get at drug stores and such? Get one of those, but use it on your chest.

Also, when binding, you can get yourself flattest not if you just smoosh them directly, but if you pull the breasts down and slightly out to the sides; it gives your chest a shape a little more like pecs.

Facial hair, I never bothered with trying to fake pre-T; all of what I'd seen of it looked really cheesey. However, If you want to go for it, get some theatrical spirit gum, and trim off some of your own hair from your head, very short. Apply the spirit gum in the pattern you want your facial hair to be in, whether it's a goatee or sideburns or what-have-you, an apply the hair. It might be tough, but try to keep the direction of the hairs in the same "grain" and not smattered wildly in all directions.

Don't use markers; it sweats off and looks really fake all-around. If you don't want to stick your own hair to your face, get some mascara close to your hair colour and brush it lightly where you want the facial hair; female-bodied people do have a slight peach fuzz on their face that will pick up the colour; it creates a subtle stubbly look. If you want thicker, use an eyeliner or brow pencil, but not just drawing it on; speckle and make tiny, short lines as thin as you possibly can.

Use the mascara to thicken your eyebrows, too; it helps.

When standing, don't put your weight on either leg or in your hips; stand up evenly on both feet with your weight distributed equally. Don't put your hands on your hips. When you walk, and this can be the tough part for some, pretend like you're walking with most of the emphasis in your lower leg; women walk from the hip with a lot of sway. Just think of it like this: women = curve, men = square.

Other than that, act confident, and keep a strong, upright posture.

When binding, bind the breasts away from the inside (the nipples show to the outsides)

For beard/sideburns cut the false hair *very* short, less than 1 mm. The shortest you can.

Use f.e. sox for packing

emphasize the eyebrows, make them broader (with false hair/color) makes a great change.

use fotos as reference

Wear *no* female items, even if theylook like male stuff- people will sense it.

Move slow, never smile

Packing is important for moving, don't forget it.

Men move from the shoulders

Maybe use a safety pin in the back to get the colar tight-- nothing is more revealing than a thin neck in a huge collar.

Don't stuff with a sock. XD Just don't. You'll look like you have a potato in your pants, not a penis.

Here's an excellent guide for the poor man's packer, made with condoms, hair gel, and pantyhose:

Home-made Packer
Materials:
6 condoms- unlubed work best
hair gel- unscented if possible
or
Nickelodeon "Gak"
nylon stocking

If you can't find unlubricated condoms then regular ones will do, just wash and dry them off before you start.

Directions:
1) Fill one of the condoms with gel until it's about the size you think the penis should be. Remember that most guys at best are only about 4" long when flacid. Tie off the end of the condom and place your newly created penis inside another condom and tie that off too (double bagging helps in case one of the condoms breaks... you don't want hair gel leaking out of your crotch). Do the same thing for each of the "balls". Remember to double bag the condoms. Most guys have one testicle that's a little bigger than the other, so if you can't get yours to be exactly the same size, even better.
2) Once you have all of your components made, tie the ends of the condoms together to make the basic shape or a penis and a set of testicles.
3) Slip that whole thing into the leg of a pair or nylons, and wrap it back over itself a couple times. If you want to get really fancy you can finish it off at the end by twisting the nylons around the tip of the penis to create somewhat of a "head".

Here's additional information on packing - I really wish I had bought the Pack-n-Play when it was still readily available. I think it's discontinued now, and I haven't seen it anywhere in a million years.
