Me too, me too...well, not the chick part, but...one of the first serial programs to ever hook me. I was in junior high in California, and one of the San Francisco stations carried it. Reruns, of course, but something about the characters and so on just swept me up and carried me along...well, that and the red-haired guard who was involved with the prison doctor <g>

I have just seen the first episode of the new Dr. Who series ... W H A T T H E F U C K ??? is all I can say right now. I have never watched an episode of the old installment, I just knew it by name. So all this "I grew up with it" is kind of lost on me.

Throughout the whole episode I never quite figured out, what this series wants to be. A comedy, a sci-fi or what? The character of Dr. Who is kind of strange, but in a good sense. I'll definitly watch the next episodes, especially after that preview at the end of the episode ... but the jury is still out on the quality of the show.

CA

P.S: Oh and is Billie Piper cute or what? :D I remember her as a singer from at least 5 to 7 years back, but never as an actress. But she is quite good ... and did I mention cute? :D

*huge grin*

OMFG I am sooo glad its back. And good. And yay for the cute Doctor.

He's not arrogant! Colin Baker was arrogant. And cold.

Now, to scan and upload that picture of me in a Dalek. *snickers*

LOL! I've got a pic of me in a Dalek, too - a kid's ride at Longleat. On an aside, I bet they're pissed off they finally got rid of their Dr. Who exhibit last year, after it being there for about 30 years. Daft buggers. :D

Dirilllli di diriilllli drilllli di dirillli di daaa dirllli dirllli di dirilllli di daaaa da daaaaaaaaaaaaa oooooooooooooooh ooooooooooooooh

That is my version of the Doctor Who theme tune!!

I was bought a toy Dalek! - and it possesed my soul until I found the power of tartan brawn

I grew up with b&w Dr Who and then along came John Pertwee and Tom Baker. Never thought that they'd be bettered but I think they def have a chance with this new show. I watched it with my daughter who didn't want to (and only did cos her geeky bro was hoggin this puter), at the end she was hooked!

I can still remeber Patrick Traughton's side-kick "Jamie" who he rescued from the battle of Culloden.

Hey - bone of contention here, anyone think that GWB etc might be Daleks in disguise? Have we actually seen any of them go up ro down stairs without falling?

Like I said, the Daleks were the most human of all the Doctor's foes.

I'd like to see the Rani again. Sure, she would turn my brain to mush, but what a way to go! :D

She, you were married to Dr. Who or to Father Ted
I was married a television addict. By proxy, I was married to every star of every sci-fi series ever made, for better or worse. Plus Benny Hill.

I liked Danger Mouse and his hamster sidekick, Penfold. But I didn't appreciate it when they moved in with us.

Dr. Who rules! I used to contribute to PBS (Public Broad Casting in the USA) just to get Dr. Who stuff they were offering for a donation.

I do not believe it !!!

Christopher Eccleston, the new Dr. Who has quit already!!! They've only broadcast one episode out of the 13 filmed, and he's quit before the next series.

Well really..............that's just so ...............*bluster*.

He didn't want to be typecast !!

You have my deepest condolences "Auntie Mattie"

Does this air on BBC America? It's the only BBC I get on my digital cable.

Will they be airing a rerun of the first episode before the next installment?

(I so got to tell my mother about this - She'll get all flittery about it.)

In Canada we get Dr. Who via CBC and it starts Tuesday April 5. Any Americans close to the border may be able to pick it up. For those who have been disappointed with the new series, I remember it always took me a couple of episodes before I started getting use to the new incarnation of the Doctor. For me Tom Baker rules.

Oh boy ... and I thought the first episode was a WTF episode. But I loved it regardless. Most of the time it was pretty hilarious, especially as they started playing Britney Spears as a "traditional ballad" :D :D :D I nearly fell off my chair laughing.

The end was pretty sad actually, but very good nonetheless. Christopher Eccleston is a really good actor, I love his dry humor and almost child like way of approaching things. Too bad he is leaving the show already ... Billie Piper is just cute, I can't put it any other way  Good that at least she will be staying.

And next weeks episode looks pretty cool too with that going back in time and all :D.

I missed it last night, but saw the repeat on BBC3 tonight.

Is it me or what? Ep. 1 was great - a good re-entry - but while I did like the spiders in Ep. 2, the 'plot' was just an anaemic version of Dug Adams' "The restaurant at the end of the universe", plus said spiders. And it was a second 'complete' story in the single Ep. I do hope that they're soon going to get into something longer, with proper cliff-hangers to keep me interested...

'News bites' like CE dropping out after 1 series don't cut the mustard!

Or were the old ones just as facile, but I've forgotten that?

The Time Lords ride again..........that is great news to hear. Here in the states I remember watching Dr. Who (mostly Baker as I remember) explore the galaxy take on all kinds of enemies.....my personal favorites the Cybermen on PBS. For those of you across the pond that is Public Broadcasting Station which shows many British programs including comdey like Black Adder and Coupling ( love it) so I hope the Docter finds his way here again.......whether by TV or DVD. Yes FOX tried to bring the Doctor back with a TV movie which I didn't think was bad but didn't capture the Doctor at all.....

My favorite was one I think was called Time Warriors ...which was in black and white. It had Dr. Who pitted against aliens with time machines pulling historie's greatest warriors to fight it out then when the best of the best survived use them in their new army. Of coarse the Doc wasn't going to stand for it and as ususal had an interesting of winning the day.
