Being a renown neurosurgeon does not magically grant one the skill set needed to be an effective president, just like being a first term junior senator didn't magically grant Obama the skill set he needed to be an effective president.
And before anyone starts banging the 'but he is an effective president' drum, I remind you that effective presidents don't let the opposite party dictate the agenda or hold the nation's finances hostage. Neither do they become toxic to their own party members during the final off year election of their presidency.
I grant that the GOP did everything in their power to sabotage his presidency, but effective presidents overcome that sort of thing.

I may not agree completely with your characterization about why on an objective basis the current administration has been ineffective even in advancing their own goals, but I think that is stated about as fairly as anyone can. Opposition parties oppose. I don't think I can accurately judge the degree to which he has been opposed, or the motivation of the players.
Dr. Carson's skillset merely includes being a neurosurgeon. I have seen him interviewed a time or two and speak off the cuff in a compelling way that comes across as very sincere to me. I don't recall all the details but I do recall anecdotes of being an academic grind who plods through learning as instilled in him from a young age. If he were president I am confident he would put in the time and effort to be well versed on any issue. Surgeons are by their nature decisive and able to live with the results of their sometimes wrong decisions. They depend on other people in the operating room and have to give clear, concise instructions to delegate things that require more than two hands. From a '"would you hire this guy to do X" perspective, there is no job on the planet that he could not handle.
That said, the first job of a politician is to be political. We like to pretend that "our guy" is free from such constraints because his or her agenda and motivations are pure and therefore require no compromise, cutting deals and image management. I don't see him as naturally gifted in that area. The current occupant is gifted in at least part of that.
Running an operating room or a pizza chain is far more executive experience than the current occupant, but Herman Cain, though a likable guy did not come across as presidential to me. Carson I could see in the role, but stumbling badly on the way to the forum. The comments "Oh Look! They have ONE too!" aspect of a Carson candidacy would be a spectacle.

Yes that meme has been thouroughly debunked. It was started to try to bury the shame about the Democratic Party's strong racist roots and strong opposition to civil rights for blacks.
If it was even remotely true, why is it that these racist Democrats that allegedly all jumped ship for the Republican Party did not help the Republicans make inroads into power for a couple of decades after the racist Democrats allegedly joined with them?
No one disputes that it was the Democrats at the time on the wrong side of the issue. The dissatisfaction that racist Democrats may have had with Johnson after he agreed to modify his racist position for political reasons would have been enough to make them hate him, but not love the Republicans pushing for Civil Rights. Goldwater understood that the camels nose under the state's right tent would be far reaching and his statements to that effect were used by Johnson for political gain. Johnson was well known for his personal racist views.
But keep repeating that the Democrats have been the champions of racial equality for the last 200 years. Maybe someone will be naive enough to believe that is remotely possible, given their sordid history.
It is exactly like ad campaigns like 'GMC is professional grade.' GM trucks are crap which is why businesses that keep maintenance records on their fleet do not keep GM in their fleets. SO, that being the root of GM's problem, the ad campaign that they are worth of consideration by contractors is born. This is how "the other guys are RACISTS!" was born. Used to be the Democrats said Republicans were racist for wanting to reform welfare, as if only blacks were on welfare. When that was pointed out they quietly dropped that charge.
Look at your own smug paternalism towards Blacks, and RacistDownSouth racist tropes and racist words for consideration. Your heart is not as pure as you seem to think it is.
