Do any of you authors allow users to download your stories? I havent gotten any feedback if maybe the site had FTP or not

Lit doesn't have an FTP option, but there's nothing to stop readers from copying and pasting. That's about the only way from this site. Individual authors may have other places for their stories. For example, my stories are also available at StoriesOnline.net, and you can dl them in a few different formats, like HTML, zip or ePub.

Personally, I have no problem with readers copying and pasting stories for their own use. That's just as well, because I wouldn't have any way of knowing about it anyhow.

I have no objection to individuals downloading my stories for their own use.

I do object to commercial sites such as JapaneseAnalFistingTeens downloading the first page of every one of my stories.

But I can't do anything about it, especially if the site is registered in Outer Mongolia.

I even wrote a story about a woman downloading a story of mine, printing it and and reading it in bed while she masturbated. As far as I'm concerned, that's pretty much what they're for. :)

I've got no problem with people snatching my stories for offline reading - hell, I wouldn't want to be responsible for any accidents caused by sharp-edged computers in their beds ;)

Yet I find it a good thing that lit doesn't offer a more convenient download mechanism. You're far more likely to get a review if the person reading the story has the review button in front of their eyes. My stories fetch far less reviews on sites where it is possible to download whole multi-page or multi-part stories for offline use.

I've got a nifty script that fetches whole stories from lit, combines them into a single document and pushes them to my ebook device so I can take some reading material with me when I'm travelling, which I do quite a lot. I do make a conscious effort though and go over every one of them before deleting them from the device once I'm back home, and I try to leave a review for every noteworthy one. No, I won't share the script. Chances are too high someone would grab all the stories here and publish them elsewhere without any reviews getting back to the authors.

Unhappily, quick downloading software makes it possible for thieves like "Elizabeth Summers" to steal stories from Lit and flog them on Amazon.theft and other receivers of stolen goods.

Who needs a script. I don;t know if you read it or not but I posted on a copyright thread that a friend of mine copy and pasted one of my lit stories into a word doc. clicked the style format to traditional, changed the name bought a $3.00 stock photo cover and published it on smashwords. he left it up there for three weeks before sending me the link to it and sold 10 copies of it for $1.99 each.

Why did he do this? To show how easy it was. He even took the extra fifteen minutes to go through the text and change the characters names. Lit is a treasure trove for anyone who wants to pull this. There are 1000's of stories on here that the authors have not been on this site in years how the hell would they ever know?

I would never pull my stuff, fact is it's been up here awhile so it's to late but starting last month any new story I write will go onto smashwords first for a few weeks then maybe I'll post it on Lit.

Lovecraft, I had written to Grandmaster Sir_Nathan about the theft of his masterpiece Culture_Shock, and his reply was to the effect of "so sad." I see he hasn't published here in a long time--it's our loss.

He is one of many I'm sure. A lot of people I have noticed now that I have been around about a year at this point use lit to "cut their teeth" which is sort of what I am doing.

I will never not post here because you really do get a lot of feedback here from the readers. When you sell an e-book you really never know of the person really like it or not. At least here you get some remarks to go by.

I did however find out with my e-book "Broken" which is the first 10 chapters of my Siblings with Benefits series. That people here will not spend. I had close to 3 dozen e-mail addresses of peopel here who said if you ever try to publish this let me know.

the book was not just the first 10 chapters but featured 3 that were never posted here plus some changes to what was. I e-mailed all of them with a coupon so i would know how many bought and only two did.

So I have come to see lit not as an "income" source but just a practice field. As I said I am putting out a new e-book this weekend and will probably put it on lit but not for about a month.
