We have a woman that wants us to download our audio stories and email them to her. I have enough trouble turning the computer on each day and don't have a clue how to do this. I tried once and failed. Anybody know how to do it? Thanks

downloading?

I would think that she should download Real Player and listen to them or you have to send her a hard copy of the script used in the recording.

How to download an Audio story I wouldn't have a clue.

I sent mine in to laurel by means of audio tapes which she has done something to to make them available for others.

I would suggest that you use the same method you used to send the stories to Laurel to send the stories to your new friend. There are probably means of burning CD's. But you wou would need to have a cd re-writer or something.

As I said, I use audio tapes and snail mail to California. It is slow, but it works and if you are sensible you can keep a copy. I wish i had.

Best of luck. I get one of my kids to switch my PC on for me. It works for me.

Personally, I wouldn't do that. She can get them from the site and if that's not good enough for her, then you should make a CD and sell it to her.

Gosh, thanks Paul and KM! These didn't come up in my email so I didn't know they were here. I'll tell her download Real Player which I guess I've seen somewhere and have her see if it works. I really wouldn't be against sending them via email if it can be done-just don't have a clue how to do it. Make a CD and sell it? How does one do that-nah, probably don't want to know although we've had feedback from people saying they've downloaded them or "burned" them so maybe somebody is selling them. By the way Paul, that's what we do-mail them in and Laurel figure it out although I think it says they can be sent via email-not sure on that one. Thanks to you both!:)

The future

Someday, we will look back on this technological infancy and laugh at how primitive it was.

I can forsee a time when technology is so advanced that people only need to put their thoughts, drawings, etc down on a simple piece of paper. Then they would affix a small decorative rectangle thereto, and put it in something called a 'mailbox.' Shortly thereafter, the 'letter' would be hand delivered to the addressee by a uniformed representative of the government.

This probably won't happen in our lifetimes, but we can dream.

Bear, I'm assuming a hell of a lot here but, did you upload the stories to the site via the pc? If so you should have a .wav file or .mpg on your computer somewhere of the original recordings.
Just attach to e-mail and send.

Although you may have problems sending attachments to a hotmail address.

Sorry, just read the last part of the post, doesn't look like you have a hard drive copy. But you should have the software onboard to record direct to the pc to make .mpg files.

Sorry to hijack but - how long does it take for an audio story to be posted if you snail-mail a cassette?

I'm trying to overcome my embarrassment about saying dirty words for the sake of the survivor contest.

Gauche-you're speaking a foreign language to me now!

DarlingNikki-I don't know-pretty quick I guess. I overnight them and Laurel generally gets it on in a couple days after she receives it. She "rips" it-whatever that means and it magically appears.

Disregard my last post Bear I didn't realise Laurel ran this site using magic. Sorry.:(

LMAO-not a problem, but you did give me my first laugh of the day and it's been one of those days when I really needed one!

No problemo.

My story mp3s ran about 10megs each or better. Very few mailboxes handle that kind of a load. I used to ship them to Laurel via Whalemail before they were bought up by some jerk who made them a pay operation.

cassette?? what's that?

LOL...a cassette is something us low-tech folks use. I think they originated in the 70s long before most of the people here were born:D

70s? When was that?

When were the seventies! Well, for us old fucks with amazing memories it was somewhere between the British Invasion of the Bay of Pigs and when the Beastie Boys slapped their Brass Monkey-you know-back when we put mood rings on our pet rocks before taking them out for a walk!:p

I think I'm glad I missed it.

Actually, I had a cassete player for sending audio mail back and forth to home when I was in Nam in the 60's, and they weren't new then.

Neolithic audio

Wasn't there a big fight between 8-track and casette tapes, way back when? I think I saw an 8-track in a museum somewhere.
MG

8 track VS cassette tape...

When 8 track tapes came out they almost, but not quite took over the industry as they were much more functional for music than cassette players at that time. But the reel tape machines out of Japan could hold several albums worth of music, and they competed more with the 8 tracks than the cassettes of that era. Advancements in technology, and answering machines however saved the cassettes, and turned 8 tracks into bulky dinosaurs.

Yeah, MG, those were the days though. Sitting on a Whoopee cushion, listening to vinyl on the old hi-fi or maybe turning on the tube to watch our choice of three, maybe four channels-I should be in that museum with that dusty old 8 track! Gee, I live being old and made to feel even older!;)
