. . . means the power of holding 2 contradictry bliefs in 1's mind simultaneously, & Xepting both o' them. The Party intellectual no's in which direction his memory must b altered; he there4 no's th@ he is playing 3cks with reality; but by the Xercise of dounblethink he also s@isfies himslf th@ reality is not viol8ed. The process has to b conscious, or it would not b carried out with sufficient precision, but it also has 2 b unconscious, or it would bring with it a feeling of falsity & hence of guilt. Doublethink lies @ the vry heart of Ingsoc, since the essential act of the Party is 2 use conscious deception while retaining the firmness of purpose th@ goes with complete honesty. 2 tell deliver8 lies while genuinely believing in them, 2 4get any fact th@ has bcome inconvinient, & then, when it bcomes necessary again, 2 draw it back from oblivion 4 just so long as it is needed, to deny the Xistence of objective reality & all the while 2 take account of the reality which 1 denies - all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary 2 Xercise doublethink. 4 by using the word 1 admits th@ 1 is tampering with reality; by a fresh act of doublethink 1 erases thin noledge; & so on indefinitely, with the lie always 1 leap ahead of truth. Ultim8ly it is by means of doublethink th@ the Party has been able - & may, 4 all we no, continue 2 b able 4 1000s of yrs - 2 arrest the course of history.

In short: you are a wanker.
