Do's and don'ts of MFF

So, I decided to write my first MFF scene and it is proving a bit challenging.

It is between a male Dom and two of his slaves that love him in separate but can't stand each other. One is bi and has a past with the other slaves (behind the Master's back), and the other has no such experience.

Any chance of this working without a deluge of hate email? It goes on sci-fi.

Advice?

Hate mail is not a bad thing. It means you've hit a nerve. That's what we strive to do. Perhaps it's not the nerve you were aiming for, but it's still a reaction.

:)

I doubt you'll have much issue with what you described in Sci-Fi. The readers there are pretty forgiving, with only m/m as a dangerous situation to delve into without warning ( even with a warning, the score will usually be far lower )

I don't see the coupling as an issue, MFF usually goes over fine in about any category, with only a few extreme homophobes complaining on rare occasions. The D/s angle shouldn't be much of a problem in Sci-Fi either, although I would offer a general warning about that at the beginning in an author's note.

Unless there's another sticky point you aren't mentioning, I'd say you'll have pretty smooth sailing. Just write away without worry.

Any group scene is a challenge. Just keeping the characters straight (so to speak) in the reader's mind can be enough to make you swear off them. Try to keep the POV firmly planted with one character and keep three-way dialogue to a minimum.

The best rule I ever heard of category selection came from the legendary KillerMuffin who clearly stated, "Go with the category that pisses off the fewest people." If the focus of the story is sci-fi, then keep it there. But if the focus is on the three-way, then Group might be a better choice. And if the plot hinges on the different roles the characters assume, the BDSM might be a logical choice.

IMHO, one of the great thing about Lit is it gives writers a place to experiment. Glad you're "pushing the envelope." Good luck.

An experiment is a good learning experience. However, KEEP IT OUT OF LOVING WIVES!

Hell, I even keep loving wives out of Loving Wives.

I'm also going to write a MFF type scene for part of a story I'm working on, and the two females are well...sisters who might get a little crazy but not way way way too much.

I've never really done that and I'm not very sure how to go about doing that.

Any time you write for the public you risk hate mail--it's like a leap of faith ;)

Group scenes can be tricky, but Rumple hit the nail on the head. I agree with him, especially about sticking to one character's POV and keeping threesome dialogue to a minimum. You may even want to write a few quick practice scenes and see who's POV works best and how much dialogue you might want to throw in, (if any).

Your catagory choice and scene sound interesting and I hope it works out for you--good luck :D
